All Applicants:

1. Why do you want to be a part of the HOSA Bayview Community?

As each year in high school goes by, the time to decide for my future pathway is shortened.
Having an interest in the medical field, I seek to learn further in depth regarding different sectors of
this field. I believe the HOSA club at Bayview has established itself to be a great club and would
provide the opportunity to choose to explore between a broad variety of topics. Furthermore, I hope to
gain experience in developing skills such as coping with stress and performing under pressure through
participating in competition. Last but not least, many of my peers were a part of HOSA the previous
year and have told me about the great experiences they had, partaking in the club.
2. How would you rearrange your schedule if your day was shortened by 4 hours? (i.e. only 20
hours exist each day, rather than 24)

With the amount of school work and extracurriculars increasing as the school year goes by
losing 4 hours each day would produce a detrimental difference in my daily schedule. Firstly, I would
create two lists; one ranking the importance of the typical tasks I would have to complete on a daily
basis and the second including the amount of time each of the tasks take. These are two important
factors as one list allows me to select certain tasks that I could spend less time on or potentially cut
out of my daily schedule and the other list shows what percentage of the day each activity takes. That
being said, personally, I would aim to reduce the amount of time spent on leisure activities and strive
to complete homework as well as chores at a greater efficiency. Leisure activities are of the lowest
priority, therefore can be reduced without any consequences. Homework and chores are mandatory,
however, increasing proficiency in these tasks would reduce the time while maintaining the same
quality of work. All in all, these strategies would be my way of coping to having 20 hours each day.

For New Applicants:

Many of HOSA’s events are team-based. What do you hope to add to your teammates’ experiences?
What do you hope they will add to yours?

As the saying goes, ‘a team is only as strong as its weakest link,’ team-based events are
heavily based on collaboration and communication. I believe that I am proficient in both these skills
having been on many sports teams since a young age. Furthermore, I am a creative, ‘out of the box’
thinker that can contribute valuable ideas that others may not. This skill will help my team come to a
unique, and innovative solution. From my teammates, I hope that they are able to effectively work as
a team and listen as well as provide feedback to my suggestions and ideas. Lastly, I hope that at least
one of my teammates will have strong leadership skills so that I can obverse and learn from them as
that is a skill I am still developing.
