WOW IT'S BEEN OVER 7 YEARS?!

DomSchu, I hadn't checked this thread in forever and guess

what, I sold the original 3-channel Triple Rec in 2011 after being too fed up with graphic EQ and
having a crappy hollow tone. I went full rakcmount with a VHT2150 poweramp and various Rocktron
and ENGL preamps, all sounded good. I switched then to Randall Cyclone, Randall V2 which I still
own and are great... BUT:

I have found myself to play with two amps (being the only guitar player) and needing more "crunch" to
fill the sonic spectrum of my tone, so yesterday I decided to try (and possibly buy) my friend's Mesa 2-
CHANNEL REV G Triple Rectifier, and looking at setting suggestions here I finally saw the previous
post from 2016 by Dom... It's like an enlightment, you're the only one so far that has explained to me
exactly how the knobs affected the mids, and I tried it and it's TRUE.

TO ANYONE ELSE STRUGGLING WITH THEIR TRIPLE RECTIFIER'S TONE:

- The 90's 2-channel version (the Rev G specifically) Triple Rectifier is UNDOUBLTELY better
sounding than the first 3-Channel generation, they do NOT achieve all of the same tones with the same
ease

- No matter which Rectifier you buy, if you wants high-gain tightness and definition USE A BOOST
pedal: I used a Maxon OD-9 overdrive, and a Boss MetalZone MT-2 (perfect for death metal, punk
rock or hardcore, Cannibal Corpse use those as well as Skinless and countless others) and don't forget
that BOOST means 1. keep the drive knob of the pedal (or distortion knob on the MT-2) as low as
possible first, 2. put the level (or volume) knob of the pedal high enough (halfway to almost maxed
out), 3. and set the "tone" knob (or bass/treble or mids knobs) halfway and play with them until it
sounds good for you

- READ the above post from Dom Schu to understand how the mids and treble work (if you have one
of the good Triple Rectifiers (the 2-channel version) it will work exactly as stated: for a scooped sound
set Presence:all the way off, Bass: Between 10:00 oclock to halfway, Mids:cranked all the way up or
slightly backed off, Treble:cranked all the way up, Gain:between noon and 3:00 o'clock.

- If you want to play loud, use the proper speakers and proper cab, this amp is POWERFUL and
NEEDS a cab and speakers capable of handling its tone: Celestion V30 will work in the right cabinet,
Celestion G12K100 and G12T100 as well, G12T75 work but might be a little flubby unless you turn
the bass down, and also multiple Eminence Legend models with work (anything above 120watts), and
also EVM12L speakers work quite well as well for tight and clear low end)

Also side note: yes, again, the 2-Channel version sounds WAY better and has THE famous Triple
Rectifier tone of the 1990's. The sizzle, the heat, the chunkiness, it's all in there. I will never ever
consider buying a 3-channel version again unless it's a "reborn" multi-watt version from 2010 and
onwards, those are decent. But the 2-channel is where it's AT.

Have fun!
