PIER ROXAS’ STORY

He woke up as the sun rises on a pier along Roxas boulevard an amnesia. He cannot remember
anything for the past 8 days. Frustrated, he frisk his body to check for clues regarding the
mishap. All he found aside from the red-colored lipstick smudge on the collar of his clothing was
a deep bruise in this face. The pain starts to kick in and a headache starts to erupt. As he gazed
away from the eye-painful sunrise he saw a black car. The car was trashed and among the midst
heaps of papers and cardboard sketches and miniature models; he found a cellphone –Nokia N8.
Adding to his frustration was the fact the phone has no contacts on the phone memory and
worse; there was no SIM card. As he was indifferently looking on the contents, his suddenly
smiled as if he won a lottery. He is looking at a picture that was recently taken using the phone –
aside from him in the picture was a fair toned athletic sexy girl who was wearing a red single cut
gown. Puzzled, he checked the details on the picture and thankfully because the location was
recorded during the picture taking, he was able to get the coordinates. He used the Nokia maps
application on the phone and immediately found out the location – a club named The Fort. He
immediately recognized the name and he experienced a flashback 2 days before the incident, he
was with a girl for a romantic evening party.

With the help of Nokia maps installed on the N8, he safely arrived at the place. It was oddly
deserted as if a storm was devouring the place. He checked his phone again and browsed for
another picture. He saw a picture of him sitting on one of the tables facing the dancefloor. As he
carefully examined the table he found something. Together with the food wrappers and empty
bottles was a SMART Gold SIM of which he immediately inserted to the phone to check for
contents. There was only one contact. He excitedly dialed it and a husky-voiced man answered at
the other end of the line. The man on the other line calmly asked him where “the item” was. But
he said he didn’t know what the man was talking about. So the man got furious and threatened to
kill the woman whom he held unless he will deliver “the item” the man was looking for. He
politely asked the man if the man knew who he was and to tell him the name who he is. The man
said two words before furiously dropped the line – Pier Roxas. The tone of the voice of the man
triggered another flashback which was 4 days prior to the incident. He was in a meeting with the
man having that voice in a sky rise office offering him to sell secrets about the new project he
was working. But despite of the offers the man was giving up to him, he refused. He left the
office with the parting words – “it’s not technology. It’s what you do with it”.

Pier opened the web application and searched himself of the internet. He found out that he is a
senior project engineer of Nokia. It immediately triggered another flashback, 8 days prior to his
present status, he was promoted President of the experimental technology department of Nokia.
Astounded of what he found out, he hurriedly drove his way to towards his office through the aid
of the Nokia maps.

He entered the office as if nothing is happening. He hastily closed his office door so as not to
draw attention. He checked his desk and found an unusual key as well as a parking ticket.
Having a suspicion that he might being followed he went to his secretary and asked if he could
borrow her car. Hesitantly the secretary reached for her car keys and said to Pier that it is running
low on gas. But as soon as Pier searched the pocket of his jeans he noticed that he has no wallet.
So out of embarrassment he smiled and shyly asked an additional favor to her secretary to
borrow some cash. The secretary was going through to her stuff searching for bills as Pier
examined the things he had obtained from the office.

Pier seemed puzzled as he examined the unusual key, and suddenly had a flashback again. It was
7 days before the incident, it was in the office of the Nokia’s CEO, he was entrusted with a key
to a safety deposit box. After he received the key he left and along the way out the girl on the
picture came in to see the CEO. The flashback continued to 6 days before the incident where he
was having coffee with the girl. The girl was offering him $ 1,000,000 in exchange of the key.
The flashback stopped as the secretary gave him a 1000 peso bill.

Pier was already heading to BDO Makati after he paid the full tank of gas. Riding in a Honda
City he sighed and wondered the mystery behind his recent overwhelming and tragic mishap.
Upon reaching the bank he immediately checked the safety deposit box and found a 16gb
flashdrive. Using the feature USB-on-the-go of the Nokia N8 he inspected the contents of the
flash drive. Inside the drive was a file containing the program and drawing plans about a
technology by Nokia but it was dated year 2009 and it is a scrapped project since it is impossible
to develop that kind of technology.

He called the man again and set up for a trade. As he started to place the phone along with its
other contents to his pocket the parking ticket fall to the floor. It was a parking ticket issued in
Manila hotel. Right then and there, another flashback bothered Pier. It was 5 days prior to the
incident. He was in a hotel room with the girl, they were having romance. The flashback ended.
Pier decided out of hunch that he should check the place hoping that it would trigger another
flashback. He was able to recall the room number he was in and sneaked in to the room. There he
realized that he hasn’t checked out from that room. In the room was his briefcase that was
obviously being checked by someone else and his trophy. He realized that it was an award held
at Manila Hotel about Nokia’s productive employees that happened 3 days prior to the incident.
He felt happy upon seeing the golden Zeus-like figure having a lightning bolt on his one hand
and logo of Nokia at the other. The figure was mounted in a circular Silicon based mount that
was also mounted to the black circular wood as the base he took all his stuff and went out
quietly.

He went to the agreed location. While in his car he managed to get a photograph using the N8
and tagged it in facebook. He asked help to his secretary to recognize who it is. Luckily, the
secretary recognized him, the Head of Operations from the arch nemesis of Nokia – S***-E***.
He realized that the man was about to steal a secret technology from Nokia which could severe
the company and he is an unwilling participant to this crime. The site was a warehouse
somewhere in Pasig. He was forcibly brought to sit on a chair. The man was holding his missing
wallet and made an assessment to him and grabbed the flashdrive from his pocket and laughed
boastfully.

A minute after, police cars arrived and there was a shooting. Thankfully, Pier managed to survive
and secure his missing wallet and the girl. Thanks to his secretary who was able to tag the
location of his N8 and called the police as instructed by Pier when he sent the message with the
picture of the man. The girl thanked Pier and said he should thanks the N8. The girl sexily said,
“its not the technology. It’s what you do with it” as she kissed Pier. This triggered another
flashback 1 day prior to the incident. He was chained on the same warehouse with the girl
interrogating him. After the hours of torture they weren’t able to obtain information from Pier.
So she injected him a memory loss serum and as a parting words she said “its not the technology,
its what you do with it”. Pier realized that the girl was just playing with him to ensure that he
would give the thing that they wanted.

Pier made the girl arrested on the scene and as the girl was taken away. Pier, brought out the
trophy and unhinged the Zeus figure. The Silicon mount was labeled Symbian Z. She teasingly
showed it to the girl and to the man who abducted him and said as the police car went away, its
not technology. Its what you do with it”.

8 days prior to the incident Pier got promoted as President of the experimental technology of
Nokia telecommunications. Meaning he is in charge of the upcoming and under development
future technologies of Nokia.

7 days prior, the was called by the CEO and got a safety deposit box key in which the content of
the box is a USB flashdisk. The flashdisk has some plans and drawing sketches about the
different Nokia softwares, hardwares and any other information which requires high level access.
That same day he met the girl whom he will be rescuing later, coming in to the office of the
CEO. At the end of the story the girl was actually a spy working for a rival company who has
plans to steal the latest and powerful technology by Nokia. So we can safely assume that the girl
will do its best to entice Pier which would include stalking and flirting on the menu.

6 days prior, Pier was having coffee to the girl. The girl assumed that he is already enticed Pier,
she proceeded straight to business. She wants the plans. The girl was under the assumption that
the safety deposit box key will lead to the prize – the ultimate powerful technology made by
Nokia. But Pier was not a stupid person, he know what the girl was after, his latest Symbian Z so
he devised something and ultimately said NO to the girl.

5 days prior the girl went for the ultimate. She had sex to get what she wants. But she failed.

4 days prior, he received a call from the man for a business meeting and politely enough Pier
went to see the man who is actually a high profile person to Nokia’s rival company. The same
thing happened, he was bribed and he refused. Loyalty is Pier’s core value.

3 days prior Pier received an award in which he secretly placed Symbian Z to the trophy. At this
point the girl senses Pier’s moves and made her move. She went to entice Pier again. This time a
more bitchy approach, she went to Pier’s room and had sex again on the same room the first time
they had sex. As Pier was sleeping, she checked the briefcase of Pier but didn’t managed to find
something. So as an intelligent spy, she is under assumption that there must be something
important concerning the operation. An object or in something that she could not find. And since
its not with Pier it in his office, where else could you place something that you would feel
secure?

So on 2 days prior she invited Pier to have a night out just plain fun hoping she would be taken
to the office, but instead she was taken to THE FORT where Pier managed to take pictures of
her. But it didn’t went well as evidenced by the trashed club. Pier managed to remove the SIM
card to prevent complications. The other people would not bother to open the phone if there is no
SIM card especially the people who are not familiar with the OFFILINE MODE.

1 day prior to the incident he was tortured which triggers the mind to repress things in the form
of amnesia (the author is a nurse who loves psychiatry… peace). Which was enhanced as the girl
injected something to Pier, in this case, INSULIN which causes the brain to go into coma. After
that Pier was dumped out along the Roxas boulevard with the car left behind to make it look like
Pier was intoxicated with alcohol and he passed out. The car can also serve as a surveillance
vehicle because Pier would tend to use it and would unknowingly do things that could lead up
uncovering the details of the Symbian Z since he lost his memory.
