Devil’s Contract

Created by Chace Webb of Nat20

Note to DMs:
This content was made with the intention of using it as a devil’s contract for a Player Character’s soul (i.e.
exchanging a soul for a wish) but it could easily be converted over to be used as a contract between a Warlock and
their Fiend Patron. This can also be used as a prop for your players to find. For instance, fill out the contract
between an NPC and a Devil Antagonist and let the players loot it out of the NPC’s room or perhaps find it on the
body of a lesser devil that was transporting it. There are lots of ways to play it.
Something else to be aware of is that the language of this contract is specifically written to be in favor of the Devil.
It has been written by a conniving creature who intends to get one over on whoever is willing to sign without
looking at the fine print. The language of specific note that allows for this are as follows:

“mayest” (in Section 2 Offer and Terms) – means that the Devil has the option to fulfill their end of the bargain or
not.
“aught” (in Section 3 Timeframe) – means that the Devil should provide the Service without delay but this language
does not bind them to do that. They are free to do it whenever they like.
“problematic” (in Section 4 Stipulations) – this is intentionally left vague so that the Devil can make whatever
claims they wish to about a request being too much trouble.
“make efforts” (in Section 4 Stipulations) – again this is vague enough that the Devil could pretty much get away
with anything so long as he made an effort.

If you wish to make your devil a little more honorable and you want them to actually uphold their end of the deal,
then nothing has to change in the language of the document (unless your cautious and observant players insists, as
they most certainly should). The language of the document puts all the power in the Devil’s hands so if they choose
to be honorable then they certainly can.
One last definition to help you – Prima Facie is a legal term that literally means “on its face” or “at first look”. In
legal context this refers to evidence that is immediately sufficient to prove a case unless there is substantial
contradictory evidence presented. I did not define what exactly constitutes as Prima Facie Breach of contract so as
to leave that to be decided by the individual DM.

SECTION 1 – DATE AND PARTIES INVOLVED

This contract is entered into on this ____ day of _____________, in the year of _____.
[Day] [Month] [Year]

This contract is entered into by and between

________________________________ (hereinafter referred to as Beneficiary)

[Name of Person Seeking Devil’s Aid Here]

And

________________________________ (hereinafter referred to as Grantor).

[Devil’s Name Here]

SECTION 2 – THE OFFER AND TERMS

The parties are entering into a contractual relationship on this date, which shall continue
henceforth until the contractual obligations have been met or the contract has been breached
(See terms of Contract Breach in Section 4 - Stipulations). This contractual relationship
stipulates that the Beneficiary shall transfer to the Grantor, without any stipulation or delay, the
following:

___________________________________________________________________________
[What the Beneficiary is giving to the Grantor. Suggested: Their Soul.]

____________________________________________ (hereinafter referred to as the Offering).

The Offering shall be transferred to the Grantor at the agreed upon time (See terms of Time
Restraint and Delivery in Section 3 – Timeframe). Upon the successful exchange of the Offering
by the Beneficiary to the Grantor, the Grantor mayest provide the agreed upon:

____________________________________________________________________________
[What the Beneficiary is seeking to receive from the Grantor – Suggested: A Wish.]

____________________________________________ (hereinafter referred to as the Service).

Once the Service has been exchanged for the Offering this contract shall be deemed completed
in whole and the Grantor shall have no further obligation to the Beneficiary.
SECTION 3 – TIMEFRAME
The Offering shall be given freely and without delay to the Grantor from the Beneficiary upon the
signing of this contract. Should the Offering be the soul of the Beneficiary then the delivery of
the Offering can be postponed to the time of the death of the Beneficiary (see Section 4 –
Stipulations for further regulations in regards to the delivery of the Offering in the case that the
Offering is a soul). The Grantor ought to provide the Service without delay to the Beneficiary
upon receipt of the Offering or in the case that the Offering is a soul, then the Grantor may
provide the Service at a time which is requested by the Beneficiary, but shall not be provided
prior to the signing of this document.

SECTION 4 – STIPULATIONS
Note that the following are not applicable forms of the Service: The Service may not reveal the
Grantor’s True Name nor the True Name of any Devil. The Service may not in any way harm or
lead to the harm of the Grantor nor any they deem to be under their protection and should the
Service or the Beneficiary harm the Grantor or any under their protection or lead to the harm of
the Grantor or any under their protection in any way (by malice or negligence) then this contract
shall be considered breached and the payment of the Offering will be claimed immediately
whether or not the Service has been completed (for further repercussions of breaching this
contract refer to Section 5 – Repercussions and Petition for Redress). If the Service takes the
form of a Wish it also follows the above enumerated stipulations. Furthermore the Wish may not
be for any of the following: more wishes, more beings/items/apparatuses that may grant
wishes, the upheaval of any of the basic foundations of existence, and any other request
deemed too dangerous or problematic by the Grantor. The Grantor also agrees to make efforts
not to directly cause harm to the Beneficiary while they are bound to this contract. Should the
Offering be for the Beneficiary’s soul then the Grantor agrees to allow the Beneficiary to live out
the rest of their mortal life before collecting the Offering unless there is a breach of contract as
outlined above.

SECTION 5 – REPERCUSSIONS AND PETITION FOR REDRESS

Any breach of contract which is a Prima Facie Breach will result in the party who causes the
breach (either Beneficiary or Grantor) to immediately and without delay fulfill their requirements
of the contract. After their requirements of the contract are then fulfilled they will be brought
before the Diabolical Court for violation of Diabolical Law (ODLA Section 4-15-23-14). Should
the Beneficiary or Grantor feel that they have been wronged by the other or by anything
resulting from this contract, or should they feel that this contract has been breached but the
breach is not a Prima Facie Breach then they may take their plight before the Diabolical Court in
Phlegethos. To bring a case before the Diabolical Court the petitioner (either the Beneficiary or
Grantor) must present their grievances in written triplicate form (3 handwritten copies
minimum) and pay the current mandated court fees. These forms, as well as the entire amount
of the court fees (fees cannot be paid in part) must be delivered, in person, to Belial or one of
his officers of the court. A grievance resulting from a breach of contract must be brought, in
written triplicate form, before the Diabolical Court, with court fees, within 72 hours from when
the alleged breach of contract occurred. The Diabolical Court will judge the grievance and give
their findings. The decisions of the Diabolical Court shall supersede any previous contract or
agreement and will be followed as law. Failure to follow the ruling of the Diabolical Court shall
be a breach of Diabolical Law (ODLA Section 4-1-13-14) and can be punishable by up to eternal
servitude in the 9 Hells and/or utter annihilation of the guilty party’s soul.
