Oxygen is the most important for
keeping us alive because body cells
need it for energy and growth. Without
oxygen, the body's cells would die.
Carbon dioxide is the waste gas that is
produced when carbon is combined
with oxygen as part of the body's
energy-making processes.
5
The respiratory system is
composed of a group
of muscles, blood vessels,
and organs that enable us to
breathe. The most important function
of the lungs is to take oxygen
from the environment and
transfer it to the bloodstream
and to expel carbon dioxide
out of our body.

Trachea
The trachea (or windpipe) is a
wide, hollow tube that connects
the larynx (or voice box) to the
bronchi of the lungs. It is an
integral part of the body’s
airway and has the vital
function of providing air flow to
and from the lungs for
respiration.
14
15
Lungs
These are spongy,
pinkish organ looks
like two upside-down
cones in your chest.
The Lungs are covered
by pleura to prevent
friction of the lungs
against the rib cage.
16
Bronchi
singularly known as a bronchus,
are extensions of the windpipe
that shuttle air to and from the
lungs. Think of them as
highways for gas exchange, with
oxygen going to the lungs and
carbon dioxide leaving the lungs
through them.
17
Bronchioles
are tubes in the lungs which
branch off from the
larger bronchi that enter each
lung they carry oxygen rich air
into the lungs and carry carbon
dioxide rich air out of the lungs
18
20
Diaphragm
The breathing process is aided
by this. When you breath in the
diaphragm contracts downward,
creating a vacuum that causes a
rush of fresh air into the lungs.
The opposite occurs when
exhalation, where the
diaphragm relaxes upward,
pushing on the lungs, allowing
them to deflate.

Here are some tips on you can take a good care of your
respiratory system.
1. Have adequate hydration, drink at least 8 glasses of
water
2. Get adequate rest, have 8 hours of sleep
3. Wash hands frequently with soap and water
4. Have proper nutrition to boost immune systems
5. Do not smoke.

RESEARCH PROPOSAL
I. BACKGROUND
The attention span of students nowadays are very short because of many different things. They have
their friends who always want to chat with them, there family who would want spend more time with
them and there is what we call “technology” – social media, online games and even online dating.
Because of these things, it is very difficult for them to focus on their studies. Teachers now need to
adapt to this situation.
This Strategic Intervention Material is one of the many ways teachers can catch up with the students.
This a way to somehow hold their focus on a topic because of the varied activities that goes with this
SIM.
This study aimed to develop a strategic intervention material in science that will enhance the learning
remedy one of the least mastered skills of selected Grade 9 students of Taguig National High School,
thus enhancing their academic performance.
This study will be a significant tool in improving the least mastered skills of the students and increase
the level of mastery.
Administration – This may help them in guiding the teacher in planning appropriate intervention to fit
the student’s need especially for those students with learning difficulty.
Science Teachers – They may find the result of this study helpful in planning and creating their own
Strategic Intervention Material in teaching Science to further help their students.
IV. SCOPE
This study is focus on the creation of a Strategic Intervention Material and its effect on the Grade 9
Students of Taguig National High School. The respondents were composed of 20 students per section
from 4 Sections which are randomly selected.
V. METHODOLOGY
The selected Grade 9 level from sections 3 – 6 handled by the researcher will be the respondents. Each
sections will be represented by 20 students chosen because of their academic performance.
Students were given a pretest beforehand and this was used to compare with the result of their post-
test after the have finished with this SIM.
Getting the Mean and MPS will determine the significant effect of this SIM to the mastery level of the
selected students.
VI. DATA ANALYSIS
Table 1
PRE-TEST
Section Number of Students Mean MPS
3 20 10.05 20.1
4 20 9.2 18.4
5 20 9.95 19.9
6 20 10.15 20.3
Table 1 showed the result of the given test to the selected Grade 9 students. These students
took the test prior this SIM
Table 2
POST-TEST
Section Number of Students Mean MPS
3 20 18.45 36.95
4 20 18.95 37.9
5 20 19.2 38.4
6 20 19 38
Table 2 showed that the Mean and MPS of the students after using this SIM almost doubled.
The researcher finds that this Strategic Intervention Material contributed to better understanding of
the topic amongst students. Giving students varied activities with repetition of the concepts helps them
to better retain the knowledge that they have learned.
FINDINGS
1. There was significant difference between the results of the pre-test afore using the SIM and the
result of the post-test after the use of this SIM.
2. This Strategic Intervention Material was effective in improving the mastery level of the students
based on the Mean and MPS.
CONCLUSION
1. This SIM has a positive effect on the mastery level of the students
2. This SIM was effective on holding the attention of the students thus, made them understand the
topic better
RECOMMENDATION
1. Science teachers can use this SIM to re-teach students the concept
2. Administrators and teachers should work hand-in-hand in planning and implementing
interventions like this to further motivate students
3. Seminars and LAC sessions should be conducted on a regular basis to develop good and
comprehensive SIM in all subject areas.
4. A further study on this is highly recommended.
