Salient Features of Spreadsheets
Reference Codes:
Columns, Slabs and Beams - by Limit State Method as per IS:456-2000
Column Footings - by Working Stress Method as per IS:456-2000.
Sub-frame Analysis - as per IS:456-2000
Annular Sections - by Working Stress Method as per IS:4998 (Part 1)-1975
Liquid Retaining Elements - by Working Stress Method as per IS:3370 (Part 2)-1965
Crack Width Calculation - at Service Load condn. as per IS:456-2000, BS8110-1997 & BS8007-1987
All inputs are in white colour cells of 'Main' worksheet. All inputs which are there at present, are only input
examples which can be replaced by a new set of inputs. Worksheet tabs are at the bottom of the screen.
Concrete grades considered are M15 to M50 as per IS:456-2000. Yield strengths of steel, fy considered
are 240 and 250 N/mm2 (MS bars Grade I, IS:432), 415 and 500 N/mm2 (HYSD bars, IS:1786)
Notes and comments are given to help input preparation. All outputs are shown in coloured cells
in a tabular form, which are protected and read only. All outputs can be printed on A4 size sheet.
A total of 10 cases can be designed at one time in most spreadsheets.
Columns: Calculates range of safe loads for a column section with
given concrete grade and reinforcement, and checks adequacy
of the section for the applied axial compressive/tensile loads and
uniaxial/biaxial bending moments, including slenderness effect.
Charts are given indicating range of safe Pu and Mu.
Eff. Length: Calculates effective length of rectangular or circular columns
for given properties of columns and beams in a frame for cases of
with and without restraint against sway. Charts are given for each case.
Slabs: Calculates bending moments and reinf't for simply supported one-way and
two-way / restrained two-way rectangular panel of different types and sizes for
given UDL, concrete grade and type of steel, and checks adequacy for deflection.
Beams: Calculates safe ultimate bending moments for T/L/Rectangular beam sections
with given concrete grade and reinf't., and calculates stirrup spacing
for given shear and torsion loads (if any).
Col. Footing: Checks adequacy of rectangular shaped footings of given size, and SBC
of soil, for the applied loads, and calculates reinforcement for bending and
shear for the given concrete grade and yield strength of steel.
SubFrame: Idealises whole frame to sub-frames, and calculates bending moments in the
sub-frames of end-bay and interior bay for gravity loads only.
Annular Sec: Calculates range of safe loads for an annular section with or without
openings, for given percentage of steel, permissible stresses in concrete
and steel, value of modular ratio, and checks the adequacy of
the section for the given loads.
Liquid Ret.: Checks adequacy of liquid retaining slab/wall/beam sections
for given concrete grade and reinforcement, for the applied
bending moment combined with tension/compression (if any).
Crack Width: Calculates crack width in concrete for a given section with details of concrete grade,
reinf't, under service load condition of flexure/tension/flexure+tension/compression.
