DAILY LESSON LOG
Teaching Dates NOVEMBER 26, 2018 (WEEK 5) Quarter: 3ND QUARTER

OBJECTIVES Monday
A. Content Standard Demonstrate understanding of how heat and sound travel using various objects.
B. Performance Standard Demonstrate conceptual understanding of properties/characteristics of light,
heat and sound.
C. Learning Competency/ Objectives 1. Observe how heat is transferred through solid materials.
Write the LC code for each. 2. Describe how heat travel.S4FE-IIIf-g-4
3. Show proper discipline in performing activities.

II. Content How Heat is Transferred through Liquid

III. Learning Resources
References
1.Teacher’s Guide pages 235-236
2.Learner’s Materials pages 198-190
3.Textbook pages
4.Additional Materials from Learning
Resources (LR) Portal
Other Learning Resources Tarpaper, activity materials, candle, tongs/clams, lighter, cans, water, mongo
seed
IV.Procedures
A. Engage Ask:
(Review) How heat travels in an object?
What makes the atom to vibrate faster and transfer the heat?
What do you call the transfer of heat from one object to another objects?
What material is a good example of conducors?
Motivation Show a picture of a mother cooking their food.

Ask:
 Describe what you see in the picture?
 Why there is a smoke coming from the pot?
 What is the reason why it happen?

Presentation Today we are going to describe how heat is transferred to liquid materials.

B. Exploration 1. Setting of Standards.

(Group Activity) 2. Group Activities:
Activity 2: “How does heat travel through liquid materials”
What you need:
a. at least 5 pieces of mongo seed
b. candle
c. can
d. water

What to do:
1. Half fill the can with water.
2. Set up the candle and the lighter.
3. put atleast 5 mongo seed in the can.
4. Use the clam/tong to hold the can.
5. Put the lower part of the can directly to the flame of the candle.
6. Get the initial temperature of the water using laboratory thermometer.
7. Observe the movement of the mongo seed when the water starts to boil.
8. Make a graph of your temperature reading.

C. Explain Ask:
(Reporting, Analysis and Discussion) 1. What happens to the temperature of the water after three minutes?
2. what do you notice about the movement of the mongo seed in the can?
3. What could you infer about the temperature of the water based on the graph
you made?
Say:
As the water at the bottom of the can gets heated, the temperature rises. The
heating coming from the water at the bottom of the can was passed on the rest
of the water in the container. The random motion of the mongo seed illustrates
the heating that is being transferred.
As D. Elaborate What have you learned?
(Generalization, Abstraction, Application) How is heat transferred to the liquid materials?

Convection is the transfer of heat coming from one place to another by

movement in fluids. Fluids includes liquid and gases. Convection involves the
motion of the fluids in currents. When the water is heated in a kettle, the
molecules at the bottom gets heated first. The heated molecules move and rise
pushing the top molecules, which are cold to the bottom. The colder the
molecules sink, get heated at the bottom, and move up. Warm fluid rises and
cold fluid sinks forming currents. This movement continues until the fluid is
evenly heated and you see bubbles forming.
This is also true with winds and breezes. Warm air rises, expands and cools.
Cool air sinks. Convection is the reason why we have wind movements and
local breezes. During daytime, air over the land is heated. It rises and expands.
Cool air over the sea moves towards the land. That’s why you feel a refreshing
breeze by the seaside during daytime.
E. Evaluation Scores obtained by pupils in their group activity will serve as their score in
formative assessment.
F. Assignment Write at least 5 situations showing transfer of heat by convection.
