Practical and Experimental Pharmacology

PREFACE
This laboratory Guide represent a blend of ideas from other
laboratory manuals, text books, and one’s past experience in
pharmacology laboratories . The Guide is written for the third year
students .It is intended to be an adjunct to pharmacology lectures
and text-book materials .
The experiments are designed to acquaint the student with various
pharmacological and toxicological principles or concepts . A brief
introductory material is provided in the experiments in order to
understand the theoretical background .
Many well – known procedures for preparing animals or isolated
organs are not described in full detail . The procedures have been
kept as simple as possible , since the experiments depend on student
participation . The doses given throughout the guide are usually
effective doses and may have to be adjusted to give the desired
responses .
The students are expected to read each experiment thoroughly before
attending the lab . and collect data carefully ; then tabulate and
explain the results . They should discuss the results in detail with the
instructor.
We welcome any comments on the experiments from our colleagues
which would improve the quality of the guide for pharmacology and
toxicology instruction .
