NARAYANA BHATTATHIRI

INTRODUCTION
Narayana Bhattathiri (1560–1646), was a student
of Pisharati, and was an expert in mathematics.
He was the author of Narayaneeyam, which was
written in praise of Guruvayoorappan (Lord
Krishna).

Life
Bhattathiri was from Melpathur,Kerala and he was
born in a Brahmin family. Bhattathiri studied from
his father. At an younger age, he became a pundit.
He got married and settled at Thrikandiyur.
Importance
The Narayaneeyam was written by Bhattathiri in
1586 AD and gives a summary of 18,000 verses of
the Bhagavata Purana.
Bhattathiri is said to have taken the disease of his
guru pisharadi, and relieved his guru from the
disease as a guru dakshina. In order to get cured
from the disease, Bhattathiri has written
Narayaneeyam. Every day, he sang 10 shlokas
on Sri Guruvayoorappan. And from then, his
condition was improved day by day. After the
completion of narayaneeyam, he was completely
cured from his disease. Bhattathiri has lived for 86
years, and he lived in many places like
Kochi, Ambalapuzha, Kozhikode and Mookkola.
Still now persons suffering from various diseases
are going to Guruvayoor Temple. And they
worship Lord Krishna for getting relieved from their
diseases, and after worshipping in the Guruvayoor
Temple, they are completely cured from their
diseases. Generally, devotees of Lord Krishna, will
read Narayaneeyam, for getting relieved from their
diseases and also for fulfilling their wishes.
Narayana Bhattathiri and Poonthanam
While Narayana Bhattathiri was composing
Narayaneeyam in Guruvayur temple,
Poonthanam, another great devotee of Lord
Guruvayoorapan, took some of his poems to
Bhattathiri, and asked him to have a glimpse of
that, and to correct it if there are any mistakes in
that. But Bhattathiri has refused to go through his
work and sent him away. Later that night lord
Guruvayoorapan appeared in Bhattathiri's dream
and asked him to go through the works of
Poonthanam. Then the next day Bhattathiri has
apologized to poonthanam, and corrected the
mistakes in his poems, and thereafter they
became very close friends.

CONCLUSION
Narayana Bhattathiri, who has devoted his entire
life towards worshipping lord Krishna, and he has
made various devotional writings on god. Through
Narayaneeyam, he is still living in the hearts of all
of the Krishna’s devotees. Those who read
Narayananeeyam, will definitely remember him.
He has come to earth, for spreading the
importance of Lord Krishna through his devotional
works. Let to pray to Lord Krishna and Narayana
Bhattathiri to give us a fulfilled life, and to relieve
from all the ailments, and finally to give us
salvation.
