B.Professional Information
1. Overall Aims of the course :
This course aims to acquire the students with the main definitions of ship geometry ,
form coefficients , ship types and forms . It also teach the students how to draw the
ship lines of different types , how to deal with table of offsets .
The structural connections of ships take a recognized portion of this course ,
through which the student learns how to draw the suitable structural connection
between different structural elements of the hull . The given subjects are forming a
basic foundation for the subjects of ship design and ship construction which will be
studied in the following years .

2. Intended Learning Outcomes of the Course ( ILOs) :

a. Knowledge and understanding :

The course enables the student to :
a1. Recognizing the different terminology of Naval Architecture ,
a2. Recognizing the geometry of ship's hull ,
a3. Recognizing the forms of ship lines ,
a4. Recognizing the structural connections applied in ship construction

b. Intellectual Skills :
The student will be able to :
b1. Establish the basic requirements for Naval Architecture and Marine
Engineering Drawings ,
b2. Differentiate between the different systems of ship construction ,
b3. Choose the suitable connection to be applied in order to maintain the local
rigidity of the hull .

c. Professional and Practical Skills :

The course enables the student to :
c1. Deal with ship design drawings in an early stage of education ,
c2. Form a structural connection model with convenient materials for illustration ,
c3. Be well prepared for the following subjects in ship design and construction .

d. General and Transferable Skills :

At the end of this course the student could be ready to :
d1. Understand the design drawings of ships ,
d2. Apply the gained knowledge to make new drawings for ship lines and hull
connections .
