An Invitation
International Meliponine Conference and
Asian Apicultural Association (AAA) Philippines
Symposium on Pollinator Conservation
25-28 February 2020

Dear Colleagues:

We are inviting you to the International Meliponine Conference and Asian Apicultural Association
(AAA) Symposium on Pollinator Conservation on 25-28 February 2020 to be held at the University of
the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) campus. The event is jointly organized by the Department of
Agriculture - Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR), UPLB, AAA Philippines, and the UPLB Bee
Program.
The conference aims to provide a forum for bee researchers, policy makers, farmers, students and
beekeepers from around the world to discuss topics related to bees and pollination, and to share their
beekeeping practices and experiences. The scientific session will cover sections on bee biology and
management, pollinator conservation, apitheraphy and applied beekeeping. A one-day workshop on
stingless bee management will be held in a farm practicing natural farming.
In 2016, the Philippines hosted the Apimondia International Symposium and Workshop on Native bees
with stingless bee in focus. Local technologies developed through DA-BAR and UPLB were shared
with the participants. This was followed by the first International Meliponine Conference held in
Malaysia in 2017 where scholarly papers on stingless bee biology and product processing were
presented. With the documented role of stingless bees in biodiversity maintenance and production of
valuable hive products, it is about time to recognize stingless bees to be at par with honey bees and
other pollinators. As what a respected bee scientist, Dr. Nikolaus Koeniger said, “stingless bees must
lose their Cinderella status and must gain more scientific and practical attention”.
Recognizing the impact of stingless bees to agriculture, environment and economy, the conference
theme Stingless Bees: Cinderella No More is most fitting.
For particulars, visit our website www.aaaphilippines.com and facebook page AAA Philippines.
We look forward to meeting you in 2020.

Very truly yours,

CLEOFAS R. CERVANCIA JOSE RENE L. MICOR
