The crack of this cement road was the result
of a mechanical weathering process known as
exfoliation wherein the constant change of
temperature causes the cement to expand and
contract. Repeated heating and cooling can cause the
outer surface of the rock to flake away from the main
rock under the cement. Mechanical weathering only
occurred here.

The large narrow gap between those
two rocks was formed during which the roots
of large and small plants penetrated the rock
as well the lichening if their roots for many
