The date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is one of the most potential fruit crop for dry arid zone of the
country with irrigation facilities. It is cultivated for its sweet edible fruits and is considered to be the
oldest amongst the cultivated tree fruits.

Suggested Cultivation Practices for Date palm recommended the following cultivation practices:
Soil: There are no specific soil requirements but for higher production sandy loams with good
moisture retaining capacity, proper drainage and aeration are recommended. Date palm is tolerant to
soil salinity of up to 4dsm-

Climate: For the best growth, flowering and fruiting, a long summer with long days as well as high
temperature, a mild winter without frost and the absence of rain during flowering and fruit setting
with low relative humidity and plenty of sunshine are required.
