PART ONE

INTRODUCTION
1.1 GENERAL

This operating manual serves generally for SIPI!UMERIK 8M/8ME, 8T/8TE,

SINUMERIK Sprint 8T/8TE, SINUMERIK Sprint 8M/8ME and SINUMERIK 8MC/MCE.

The operation of each control is the same, The few differences e.g.,
moving with the direction pushbuttons, are described for each control
type. The operating concept of System 8 controls is characterised by its
systematic unified operating logic, Operations such as the input of
a block number are automatic and need not be carried out by the operator.

0 The operating

out in sequence. For this, the symbols

.The operator's manual is so arranged that every user, after reading the
introduction in part 2, will be able to practice the important operations
directly on the control, These exercises can be completed relatlvely
quickly.

The descriptions in part 2 are more de tailed. Part 3 supplements part'2

and therefore does not con tain the bas ic information to be found in part 2.
Knowledge of part 2 eases the understanding of part 3.

I Siemens AG Order No.: 6ZB5 410-3AA02-OBAO E04.82 l-l

The functions outlined in this description coul d apply'to any control, but
this depends upon those functions as delivered or from a service requirement.

In the following examples a metric measuring system is assumed and programmed

with decimal point programming (see point 3.9.13).
-
The feedrate will be displayed on the screen in mm/min.
Different input formats and displays are shown in point 2.2.

We reserve the right to change this description as a result of technical

changes.

1.2 Operator's panel, operator's panel elements

At the end of this manual there are fold out drawings of the operator's panels
related to the various control types. In order to understand the following, it
is helpful to' fold out the appropriate illustration.

The operator's panel is divided into modules which are also clarified in the
appendix.

The itemised operating elements are first pictured and then clarified by
the text with the pushbutton number detailed on the fold out drawing.

1.5 Modes

An NC control controls machine tool movement of tools about a workpiece as

defined’by a previously entered part programme. An NC machine requires
loading with a workpiece, tools and ‘other preparatory work, before the final
process can begin.

These preparations are :

- moving the tool to the correct start position relative to the workpiece
as shown on the settings drawings (see part 2.5 Setting UP)

- Loading the part programme into the memory of the control ( see part
2.6 Part Programming memory)
0-
- Checking or entering the zero offsets (see part 2.7)

- Checking or entering the tool .offsets (see part 2.8)

For these preparations the control must be in the respective modesso that the 0
preparatory operations can be established by the control. These operating
conditions may be selected by pressing the correct push buttons on the operating
pane L .

In the following descript ,ions, the modes w ill be described.

If it is necessary to change a zero point, it can be done via the
keyboard in the PRESET mode (see point 3.4), thus changing the
actual value store in the control. This defines a new, artificial
machine zero point (control zero point),
The programmable 692 function can also set the control actual value counters
(see programming manual). When setting the actual value stores with
692 X..... 692 Z.... etc., care must be taken such that the re-entry point
in an interrupted program is correct. Actual value setting with 692 X etc.,
is only recommended in special cases. Normally the zero point offsets 654-657
and G59 are recommended.

With a user datum (see 3.9.13) the actual value of the saddle reference point
referred to the control zero point(machine actual value).

or

the actual value of the tool tip to the workpiece zero (workpiece actual value)
can be displayed (compare point 3.14).

2.10.4 Checking the entered data

The inputted data will be checked for simple errors,

- Character parity.

For IS0 every character must have an even number of bits ( logic 1 1.
EIA must have an odd number of bits. ( The tape provides : number of holes
per character).

-' Block par itY

The number o f characters in a block including (LF) must be even. Block parity
checking can be selected via user da-ta,

- Double or multiple read in.

If a part program is read in, whose number is already stored In the memory, it
will be compared with the stored programme.
An old program must be cleared when this is not +o be the case.

If an error is recognised, the input is stopped and an alarm is displayed. In

this case, this last read program is only partly stored, i.e. up to the
point at which the reader stopped. If the program is to be stored completely,
the error must be cleared at first and the program must be cancelled. Then a
new program can be input.

On return to the Auto mode, following "Start" the auto interrupt shift is calculated

0 in with the distance to go and executed, The shift command OFF on the JOG mode
display is cleared following NC start for the programmed axes,

‘0 The interrupt shift is calculated such that with either an absolute or an incremental
programme the absolute block end point is reached.

Where the operator has introduced an interrupt shift in the automatic mode ( including
axes not programmed in the interrupted block) a restart will only return
the programmed axes, The shift in the non-programmed axes remains until they are
programmed,OFF in the JOG basic display remains until the offsets are removed.

If another Au to interrupt is init iated before the clear ing of the old interrupt,
the interrupt movements are added together and executed as described previously,

This calculation process and the display of the Auto interrupt shift make
returning to a contour simpler. (The opera tor ~WS not have to bring the tool
to touch the workpiece and therefore the dimensions remain unchangedi.

3.2 Automatic search

The search function permits a search to a technologically possible place

within a part program as for the first level of a sub-routine. The
tool is positioned automatically to the end points of the searched block.
Is the searched block a circle block, the programmed end point can be
reached by driving from the starting point which is reached in the operation
modes to a concentric circle arc and a finisching radial compensating
movement. It will not be checked, whether the circle end points are within
the allowed space limit (see programming instruction, point 8.2.1).
During the search all calculations (tool calculations, zero offsets,
parameter chaining, cutter path and cutter radius corrections) are
carried out.
Depending on how the part program is defined the following three search
operating steps are composed

1. When the initial program path information is in absolute (G90) the

control then knows the positions of the workpiece zero within the
the machine working areas. The machine must be moved in a set up mode to a po
to a position near to the contour stated in the searched block before
the search is initiated. This ensures a collision free move to the
end points in one of the interpolation modes. (First "G" group with
the exception of thread cutting). If the searched block is to be partially
or wholly executed a move to the start point or to another contour
point prior to the search is necessary; it will be worked from there,
after the block search. When using the function "set actual value store" 692
number 3 has to be taken into account, additionally.

2. When the initial program path information is in incremental (G91), the

control does not know the positions of the workpiece zero within the
machine working areas. Before a search, the machine must be pre-positioned
to the positions defined by the program start points. Following the
search the axes are firstly jogged to a position near the contour stated
in the searched block. Otherwise as described in point 1.

-
0
Siemens AG Order No.: 6285 410-3AA02-OBAO E04.82 3-9
3) When .-the initial programme information sets the actual value
counters G92 X.,, etc., the control does not know the position
of the workpiece zero within the machine working areas, before
a search the machine must be pre-positioned to the points at which
the actual values are set, Following the search the axis are jogged
to a position near the contour stated in the searched block, otherwise
as described in point 1.

Important The search functions only positions the axes which are
defined in the searched block. Other axes are pos tioned when they
are def ined in a later block,

3.9.6 Differential resolver shift
0 3.9.6.1 Function
0 The differential resolver function can be used to insert an incremental offset
for use during the normal automatic mode. This offset cannot be realized by tool
offsets or zero offsets or must be varried simultaneously to the normal operation
by the operator (DRF).

The differential resolver function has no effect on the "leadscrew pitch error
compensation", "reference point return" or "return to an absolute position".
The handwheels are used for the differential resolver function.

After turning the keyswitch "handwheel as differential

resolver", the handwheel with the associated axis address
switches can be used to generate the differential resolver
function in Automatic.

Siemens AG Order No.: 6ZB5 410-3AA02-OBAO E04.62 3-35

The move distance, entered with the handwheel in the d fferential resolver
function, is stored in a separate offset memory

The incremental resolution of the handwheels in this case is identical to.the

smallest input resolution.

The offset can only be taken out by the operator. At “Sw i tch On”, “Return

The alarm can be cancelled with
With this alarm active no "NC startIt can be
executed.
The control measures the KV factor of all axes,
and displays the calculated values under NS50 . . .
N859 on the TEST display, (the display of 1000 is
the KV factor of l.O), and compares the measured
values with a tolerance band.Out of tolerance
generates Alarm 527. This alarm is only output
once because machines with rotary axes have as
of necessity different KV factors.
After altering one machine datum all calculated
KV factors are reset. Alarm 527 is again generated
as a reminder that the KV factors are different.
The KV factor is measured when the machine is
jogged at ,+ 25% of the F value.

528 KV factors not defined

The alarm is generated on switching the mains on
if all the KV factors are not defined.
