CHAPTER 1

Introduction

This chapter deals with the Introduction, Background of the Problem,

Significance of the Study and Scope and Limitation.

Background of the Problem

The World Bank was embroiled in changes of nepotism and corruption yesterday

after it emerged that the appointment of its new british economists, Nickstern,

Broke stict rules banning the Washington-based institution from rising more than

one family member. Nepotism is the unfair use of power in orders to get jobs or

other benefits for your family or friends. Nepotism is defined as individuals

showing favoritism to the family members and friends by producing them with

jobs or giving them promotions based on their relationships, not competence.

Where nepotism becomes problematic is when non-relative employees feel that

there is unfair favoritism and when relatives are hired over more competent non-

relatives. Many problem of Political Dynasty or Nepotism is to steal jobs, powers

and opportunities from others to get the possition and about that other of Politics

member is hiding some Government Investments. This was problem because

they have more power than any other individual faculty member and where not

liked because of it. Department morale suffered the entire time they were

employed there.

Significance of the Study


Employer. If an employer practices nepotism, he is sure to face extreme criticism

from his/her employees.

Employee. An employees experience a feeling of desertion and alienation. This is

obvious, sines he is made to feel unimportant in a place where he expects to feel

valued.

Scope and Limitation

A political family estabilishes power in a local and national government. This

study of political dynasty will focus on who can merely run in the government. In

our country the fundamental cultural importance of kindship affiliation explains

the power and resilience of political dynasty in the present time and how know

the political dynasty in the Philippines that does the term include only the

immediate and extended on a family.

Introduction

This chapter deals with the Introduction. Review of related Literature and Study,

Conceptual Frameworks,Research Question and Hypothesis.

Review of Related Literature and Study

L1. According to Linda C. Wong and Brian H. Kleiner Nepotism has been

criticized mostlyas being unprofessional. Its opponents have claimed that the rise

of an intellectual, analytical approach to management spells the decline and

ultimate extinction of nepotism. However, nepotism is live and on the march in

American business and will continue to remain deeply ingrained in all industries

simply because it pays to be related to the boss.

L2. According to Elbeyi Pelit , Since nepotism covers the practices in

establishments in which family-relative relations are concentrated, The hotels

included in the sampling group have been selected from establishments whose

proprietors are a part of a family/family group

L3. According to Wlodzimers Sroka and Jolita Vveinhardt , The terms “ Nepotism

“ , i.e. favouritsm granted to relatives, is usally associated with corruption in the

public sector and the abuse of public resources. Moreover, it is commonly

accompanied by the public image of post-Soviet and/ or developing countrise.

L4. According to N. Derya Ergun Ozler and B. Alper Buyukarslan , It is the fact

that favouritism has become an important subject matter as corporations and


both government and non-government organizations become more concerned

with ethical issues.

L5. According to Derya Cevik Tasdemir , Dr. Filiz Cayiragasi and Gulsum

Gunbala Guven , An important part of the business in the worl and in turkey is a

family business, In this context, the economy is largely dominated by family

busimness.Its directly related to the solution of nepotism problems in the family

business, the increas of the market share, and the extension of the life span.

S1 According to Hatice Necla Keles , Tugba Kural Ozkan and Muhammet

Bezirci , Nepotism, Favorotism and Cronyism , which can be seen In all sectors

of today’s business have become quite common behavior. The granting of

privileges to certain individuals is an extremely disturbing situation to the

organization ‘s employees and the lack of trust arising under such conditions

negatively affects job satisfaction, organizational loyalty, and individual

performance, and can hinder the internal control system in the auditing process.

In this study, the effects of nepotism, favoritism and cronyism on organizational

loyalty regarding the internal control system in the auditing process in the Turkish

textiles sector are examined. In order to uncover the relationships in question,

frequency breakdowns, cronbach’s Alpha reliability testing and regression

analysis are performed.

S2. According to Arshad Mahmood Sadozai, Hafiz Muhammad Fakhar Zaman (.,

et al) The purpose of this study was to examine the effect to favoritism, nepotism

and cronyism on job satisfaction in the public sector organizations of pakistan. A

convenience sampling tecnique was used to collect the data. 250 questionnaires
were distributed to full time employees of 8 public sector organizations. 222

usable questionnaires were retrieved. The main finding of this research are that

favorotism, nepotism and cronyism have a positive relationships with job

satisfaction in public sector of pakistan. Conclusion, Recommendation and

Limitation of the Study are also discussed.

S3. According to Derya Cevik Tasdemir , Filix Cayiragasi ( et al., ) An Importnats

part of the business in the world and in Turkey is family business. In this contex,

the economy is largely dominated by family business, Literature studies showed

that nepotic approaches are more common in family business than in other

business. Nepotis, the problem that the family business has caused; non-

institutionalization, increase in labor turmover rate, dicrease in organizational

commitment, dicrease in productivity.

S4. According to Huseyin Arasli and Mustafa Tumer , Nepotism, Cronysim and

Favoritsm are unprofessional practices giving prefential treatment to relatives

and friends in employment. For this study a survey was carried out with 576

respondents working in the banking industry in Northen Cyprus. An analysis was

then conducted to assess the impact pf these practices on job stress, job

satisfaction, and intention to quit behavior of employees, as well as word of

mouth comments in their workplaces.
