REGION IX- ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA

AYALA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL - SENIOR HIGH

Teacher: Eljay Ryann T. Sinahon

Special Science Teacher I

SUBJECT: Probability and Statistics

Date: March 5, 2019, 1:00-2:00

I. Objectives At the end of this lesson, you should be able to realize the following objectives:
● Illustrate a probability distribution for a discrete random variable and its properties;
● Compute probabilities corresponding to a given random variable;
● Solve problems involving mean, variance and standard deviation of probability distribution.
II. Lesson Title Discrete Probability Distribution
Source: Statistics and Probability (DIWA Senior High School Series)
Materials: Manila Paper, markers.

III. Procedure

● Check the attendance of the class.

● Recall lesson on interpreting given sample space data.
ACTIVITY
Note:

1. Frequency Distribution- refers to data collected in tabulated arranged from highest to

lowest score to vice versa.
2. Range - Difference between the highest score and the lowest score.

R= 𝑋ℎ𝑖𝑔𝑒𝑠𝑡 - 𝑋𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑠𝑡

3. Mode – value that occurs “ most frequently” in a given frequency distribution.

4. Mean - also known as arithmetic mean. It also refers to the “ average value of all
scores.”
𝑋𝑖 𝑋1+𝑋2+𝑋3+𝑋4….+𝑋𝑛
Formula: ∑𝑛𝑖=1 =
𝑛 𝑛

𝑓𝑖𝑋𝑖
Formula: ∑𝑛𝑖=1
∑ 𝑓𝑖

A. Analyze the Sample data:

S= {1,2,4,3,3,5,2,3,6,4}

Frequency Distribution

Score (Xi) Frequency (fi) fiXi

1 1 1
2 2 4
3 3 9
4 2 8
5 1 5
6 1 6
Questions :
ANALYSIS

1. What is the range of the given sample space? .

2. What is the mode of the given sample space? .
3. What is the mean of the given sample space? .

Discrete Probability Distribution

ABSTRACTION
∙ Students will be given handouts as reference for their activity.

● Steps in solving problem and determining probability of random sample:

1. Understand - Know what the problem asked

Determine the given facts.

2. Analyze – Analyze the data given and use it to determine missing values
needed to be able to solve for probability of a random sample.

3. Solve – Solve for, what is ask in the problem. Show your solution

4. Review - Recheck your solution for possible mistakes.

● Students will be asked to form 5 groups.

● Each group will be given handouts and sample problem to be solved. Each group will be
APPLICATION
performing through board work as they are represented by their member with assigned
number.
● The students will present their interpretation to the given topic using the materials provided
by the facilitator.

Practice Problem:

1. The probabilities that a printer produces 0,1,2, and 3 misprints are 42%, 28%,
18%, and 12% respectively.
A. Construct a probability mass function.
B. Compute the mean value of the random variable
C. Compute for variance and standard deviation.

Evaluation 1. Four patients are treated with a specific medicine. The probabilities for 0,2,3, and 4
successes are 0.24, 0.08, 0.14, 0.31, and 0.23.
A. Construct a probability mass function.
B. Compute the mean value of the random variable
C. Compute for variance and standard deviation.

Annotation Lesson discussed is integrated to any subject most especially in the process of
Research and development.
