DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
REGION IX- ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA
I. Objectives At the end of this lesson, you should be able to realize the following objectives:
● Illustrate a probability distribution for a discrete random variable and its properties;
● Compute probabilities corresponding to a given random variable;
● Solve problems involving mean, variance and standard deviation of probability distribution.
II. Lesson Title Discrete Probability Distribution
Source: Statistics and Probability (DIWA Senior High School Series)
Materials: Manila Paper, markers.
III. Procedure
R= 𝑋ℎ𝑖𝑔𝑒𝑠𝑡 - 𝑋𝑙𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑠𝑡
𝑓𝑖𝑋𝑖
Formula: ∑𝑛𝑖=1
∑ 𝑓𝑖
Frequency Distribution
2. Analyze – Analyze the data given and use it to determine missing values
needed to be able to solve for probability of a random sample.
3. Solve – Solve for, what is ask in the problem. Show your solution
Practice Problem:
1. The probabilities that a printer produces 0,1,2, and 3 misprints are 42%, 28%,
18%, and 12% respectively.
A. Construct a probability mass function.
B. Compute the mean value of the random variable
C. Compute for variance and standard deviation.
Evaluation 1. Four patients are treated with a specific medicine. The probabilities for 0,2,3, and 4
successes are 0.24, 0.08, 0.14, 0.31, and 0.23.
A. Construct a probability mass function.
B. Compute the mean value of the random variable
C. Compute for variance and standard deviation.
Annotation Lesson discussed is integrated to any subject most especially in the process of
Research and development.
