Background Information:

● Warm ups and cooldown stretches are to be performed in the main gym.
● The lesson will also be held in the main gym.
● The person(s) conducting this lesson should be familiar with the set up for capture the
flag. (Picture of set-up will be posted below.)
● A couple of students in this class may need accommodations. They usually participate to
the best of their ability, and may take a break to rest or walk as needed.
● Students athletic ability ranges from average to athletic.
● Several of the students participate in a sport, and will potentially have to leave early on
game days.
● Game set up:
○ Set up hoops on opposite corners of the gym with 4 cones surrounding each hoop.
(This will be where the flags will be kept.)
○ Place 3-4 flags on each side
○ Put out 2 more hoops on both sides.

Engagement:

● Ask students to line up from oldest to youngest. Split students up into 2 groups

Exploration:

1. Pre-lesson
● I will take attendance and take this time and visually check to make sure that the
gymnasium is set up properly prior to the lesson.

2. During lesson

● Warm up
○ Students will be instructed to line up/spread out at one the end of the room.
Dynamic stretches will include:
■ Rear kicks
■ Walking toe taps (Frankenstein’s)
■ Walking side lunge
■ Walking knee hugs half way/quad pulls the other half
■ Gate (hip) Openers/Jog at half court
■ Scoops/Jog at half court
■ Sprint to half court, jog back 2x
● Rock, Paper, Scissors Tag! (Warm up game)
● Game: Capture the Flag! (Rules)
○ 1. The object of the game is to try to steal the other team’s flags without getting
tagged.
○ 2. If you make it to the safe zone, you cannot be tagged. Once you are out of the
safe zone, you can be tagged.
○ 3. If you are tagged, you go to jail. (Hula hoops)
○ 4. You may save a player from jail, as long as you don’t get tagged along the way.
If you make it to the jail without getting tagged, you may grab 1 teammate. Both
players may go back to their side without getting tagged. (Players may not grab a
flag and try to save a teammate from jail, vice versa.)
○ 5. If too many people are in jail, the teacher may call for a jail break. (Everyone is
free!)
○ If all flags are grabbed from 1 side, the team with the most flags from the
opposing team wins!

3. Post-lesson
