Activity No.

Energy, its Transformation and Conservation Simulation

Name:____________________________________ Score:_____________________
Section: ____________ Group No.:________ Date Performed:__________________

Energy is the ability or the capacity to do work. Without energy, work cannot be done.
Being able to perform work is an indication of the existence of energy. Energy can be
transformed from one form to another. During the energy transformation, there is NO
energy lost or gained. This activity will simulate the existence of energy, transformation
and its law conservation.

I. Objectives

In this activity, you should be able to:

2. Discuss the transformation of Energy

3. State the Law of Conservation of Energy
4. Explain the Law of Conservation of Energy

II. Materials

Card board
Marker/chalk
String
Coin (to make the arrow heavy)
Scissors

III. Procedure

1. Make an arrow from a hard cardboard measuring 2 inch. Paste or tape the
coin on it. This will make the arrow stable.
2. Bore a hole at the upper center of the cardboard and tie with a 20 cm string.
3. Tie or hang the arrow on the cardboard.
4. Use a marker/chalk to draw a horizontal line on the wall. This will serve as
your reference point.
5. Mark (A) at the upper right of the board, (B) at the lower center of the board
and (C) at the upper left of the board. Please refer to the illustration below:
C A

6. Pull the arrow to A and then release it immediately.

7. Repeat step 5 for 5 times and record observations.

IV. Questions

1. What have you observed with the motion of the arrow?

2. Why do you think that the arrow moves very fast at point B?
