Five-Year Career Plan

The Five-Year Career Plan is designed to help you develop skills in your current job or
to prepare for your next job. Your five-year plan is very much an individual and
personal plan, and is designed to facilitate your growth, development and advancement.
Always use the SMART model when setting goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable,
Realistic and within a specific Timeframe.

Plan Period: From - 2019 To - 2024

My Current Position: I am currently in my second year of college where i am doing a

level 3 extended diploma in business.

My Long-Term Goal: I would like to be a mortgage advisor in a bank.

Intermediate Steps Over the Next Five Years to Reach My Goal

Try to set two or three short term goals (i.e. those in the next 2 years) and
the remainder for the medium term (following 3 years)
My one year goal is to secure a place on the business management
Year One course at bradford university and to have completed it to the best of my
ability. To achieve this I must first complete the Level 3 Business BTEC
course. I aim to complete this to a D*D*D qualification. I must also
become more proactive in the organisation of my work if I am aiming for a
higher grade at university. I need to become even more self-motivated,
and also need to ensure that I always reference my sources.

during my second year i would like to be in my first year of university

Year Two doing the business and management degree. I am currently already
taking driving lessons and learning my theory so hopefully during my year
2 I will be ready to take my drivers test.
My three year goal is to have completed a years work placement through
Year Three my sandwich course at university with a well established bank. Using my
experience as my selling point, I aim to get my years experience by
applying to every company I come across as I will also benefit from
having the experience of interviews with different companies. I must
improve my personal statement and CV writing skills and get family
members and friends to proof read my CV so that it is at its best.
for my fourth year i will be in my last year of university. my last year of
Year Four university is when i will get my results so hopefully I get the highest
grades i could possibly get.
My five year goal is to have found a job in a bank as a mortgage advisor
Year Five and have completed my first year of working In order to achieve this I am
going to work hard at university to receive a high grade, the experience
from my sandwich course will help toward getting the job. Budgeting is an
important skill that I will need for this job as I will have to stick to a strict
budget when helping people with mortagages. I also need to develop my
problem solving skills for this which i am going to work on by asking my
current work placement to help me with.

Personal Development Objectives to Meet My Goals

(what do I need to do to get where I want to be?)

I need to get at least 112 UCAS points to get into the course i would like to do in
university which is business and management. So far i have 7 distinctions , 1 pass and
1 merit. If i get the same results this year i will have enough points for University.

How can others help me accomplish these objectives?

I will need to work on my problem solving skills which i am going to ask my current work
placement employer to help me work on.

taking the role as a leader in groups is also a skill I need to develop on as being a
mortgage advisor means customers would rely on you to pass the right and relevant
information. To help me improve this, I have taken upon the role of team leader in my
college project lessons. Leadership is vital for managing jobs so it is important for me to
make sure that I am not too assertive. although I feel I am a good leader, i feel like i can
improve my leadership skills to the best of my ability.

Whilst studying my level 3 business course I did some work experience in a local

pharmacy. This was to help prepare me for working in a real environment and gave me

a taste of work ethics. I have currently started my work placement for 2019-2020 at

Natwest bank which is a huge opportunity for me as i would like to be a mortgage

advisor in a bank in 10 years time so doing work placement here is a huge step forward

for me.

What are my development areas and my plan to address these areas?
