Capability Review – CFG File Hierarchy
1. Capability/Enhancement Overview
Users, typically administrators, are now able to specify a set (or all) of the available CADWorx
configuration settings and piping rules to be locked down in the modeling environment.
The CADWorx SETUP User Interface will adjust property status as enabled or disabled in a session
based on the current User’s Active Directory permissions over the loaded Configuration (CFG) file.
Administrators can determine which settings and pipe rules to include or exclude from a shared
Configuration file and lock that file down as needed.
Settings and pipe rules included in that shared Configuration file cannot be altered in the design sessions
by users with Read-Only permission to the Configuration file.
Settings and pipe rules excluded from that shared Configuration file can be altered in the design sessions
by all users according to their personal preferences. Personal preferences are stored in the local user
profile and applied consistently any time any settings are excluded from the loaded Configuration file.

The following diagram represents the logic used when starting a new Drawing with CADWorx Plant.

Capability Review – CFG File Hierarchy
1. Each directive in the “Configuration Settings” and “Pipe Rules” sections has a checkbox
associated with it. Directives for which the checkbox is checked are included in a CFG file when
saved. Directives for which the checkbox is unchecked are excluded from a CFG file when saved.
In each section, you can use the checkbox in the header row by the “Include in CFG” column title
to check or uncheck all directives available in that section all at once. When saving the CFG file,
only settings for which the checkbox is checked will be included in the saved CFG file.
Note for reference further below that in the above setup that the “Apply Trimmed Elbow Rule” and
“Apply Pipe Healing Rule” checkboxes are unchecked in this setup. This indicates that these two
settings will be excluded from the CFG file when saved.

2. A “Miscellaneous CFG Content” section has been added with similar checkbox to include or
exclude “Current Drawing Settings”, “Configuration Layers”, “Piping Live Database Settings”,
“Piping BOM Setup”, “Line Number Setup”, “Clash Settings”, “HVAC BOM Setup”, “Steel BOM
Setup”, “Steel Live Database Settings” in a CFG file when saved. You can use the checkbox in
the header row by the “Include in CFG” column title to check or uncheck all options available in
the “Miscellaneous CFG Content” section all at once. When saving the CFG file, only settings for
which the checkbox is checked will be included in the saved CFG file.
3. To include all settings in a CFG file when saved, regardless of the individual settings checkbox
status, you can check the “Include all settings when saving CFG file” checkbox at the bottom of
the dialog prior to saving the CFG file. When saving a CFG file, if the “Include all settings when
saving CFG file” is checked, then all settings will be included in that saved CFG file. The “Include
all settings when saving CFG file” is unchecked by default.

Read-only permissions can also be managed using the “Read-Only” file properties, however this is less
effective than using the AD controls since users with full AD access to the shared CFG file will be able to
modify the “Read-Only” property at will, preventing true control over CFG file permissions

Note that in the below screen captures, only the “Apply Trimmed Elbow Rule” and “Apply Pipe Healing
Rule” remain available to the user to change. This is consistent with our setup illustrated earlier on in this
document.
The “Save” button will be disabled for a CFG file to which the user has Read-Only permissions (non-Write
permissions).
“Include in CFG” checkboxes remain active to support permitted “Save As” operations.
