Experiment No. 3 – Temperature detection using RTD & control the temperature
of water at desired set point.

We have used ambient temperature generator component & set variable temperature curve versus time which is
as follows:

According to the time this device will generate the variable temperature & it is sensed by the RTD in electrical
circuit. Resistance of RTD varies with the temperature & we are getting variable RMS current on ammeter.

Above fig. shows the waveform of temperature generator & resistance of RTD versus time, we can see that both
varying with each other. Similarly RMS current waveform is also varying with the resistance.

Experiment No. 4 – Control the flow of water using analog control valve.

The proportional flow control valve will control flow according to the signal received by the Proportional Solenoid
of the valve. The valves' solenoid will receive the set point signal from an input device. Here “foot pedal” is giving
set point signal to the solenoid of valve. Flow meter is measuring the variable flow. For the better understanding of
circuit we can also set the flow characteristics of the valve by setting the internal curve of “signal flow (L/min)”
versus “input signal” of the pedal.

Above fig. shows that we have defined curve for valve. In which flow should be 78 L/min at the input signal of 65.

Above graph shows that the 78 L/min flow from flowmeter at the foot pedal input signal of 65. This is how we size
the proportional flow regulator valve.

Experiment No. 5 – Control the speed of AC 3 phase motor using VFD.

Variable frequency drives are used to vary the rotating speed of motors by varying the AC Supply
Frequency. In Automation Studio, we will have different VFD’s according to the different manufacturers
like Schneider, Allen Bradley, Eaton etc. To vary the frequency of the VFD, click on the VFD Drive, you
will get a Slider. Change the slider values and see the variations in speed of motor (rpm).

Above graph shows that the angular speed of motor in RPM varies proportional with the measured frequency of
VFD.

Experiment No. 6 – Design simulation of 3 cylinder piston pump using pneumatic kit & PLC.

Proximity sensors are mounted on 0% & 100% position of cylinder & it is sending signal to the sensor
switch which is at the input side of PLC. Similarly, solenoid on the output side of PLC is activating the
solenoid on the directional valve. This is sequencing of 3 cylinders according to the PLC signals.

Experiment No. 8 – Control the speed of AC 3phase motor from Mobile/HMI
with PLC.

We can change the starting mode of VFD’s by double clicking on it. Here we have changed the starting mode to
predefined speed & selected 8 speeds, so 50 Hz AC frequency is divided into 8 steps and accordingly 8 different
speeds of motor can be achieved. There are LI1 to LI4 terminals on VFD to decide its logic state & accordingly it will
decide the predefined frequency. Supply to these terminals is given from the PLC.
