CONTEMPORARY ART TECHNIQUES AND PRACTICES

1. CONTEMPORARY ARTWORK AND UNIQUE TECHNIQUES


Contemplating on Contemporary art implies the use of techniques as to how the same work of art was
created.
a. MINIMALISM- seeks to take away what’s unnecessary and leaving only what’s essential.
Minimalism has even affected branding as every company desires to focus on what is only
necessary and that is the product itself.
b. FOUND OBJECTS- this is one of the most remarkable movement in contemporary art. It offers
diverse ways to express one’s self through find objects. Those that are considered useless and are
just pieces of junk can actually put a twist in your creation. It renders the art work distinctly unique
and genuine.
c. LARGE- SCALE ART- creating huge art has become very popular as it expresses differences in
perspective but uniqueness in its message. Creating something huge has become popular as it
connects with the concerns of the environment.

2. CONTEMPORARY VISUAL ART MEDIUM


a. Art Medium- it is the material or elements used by an artist or designer to create an art. Medium
in art pertains to the materials used in the creation of art works that serves as a channel of
communication to the listeners, audience, viewers or maybe readers. Art medium also referred to
as hybrid media which reflect a more intense and unique expression of the Artist’s sentiment and
ideas.

3. CONTEMPORARY PAINTING AND DRAWING


a. Media, in drawing, pertains to those manually used and the base to which it is applied such as a
paper and a pencil. Contemporary media involves the use of the traditional such as crayon, oil,
paint, Gouache, human finger and the like. However, with the rise of greater dynamism among
artist, other forms of media were utilized to deliver a more intense art work which includes the
following:
 Coffee
 Wine from coconut juice (Tuba)
 Garlic
 Rust
 Human blood
 Onion
 Mud
 Human hair
 Tomato
 Soy sauce
 Staple wires
 Solar
 Ronald Ventura- a contemporary Filipino artist refined his signature style of multi- layered paintings
which utilizes a broad range of imagery and focuses on the human form.

4. CONTEMPORARY PHILIPPINE PHOTOGRAPHY


 The development of Electronic media came rise of electronic art or Digital art which involves the
use of computers and even handheld gadgets that has the capacity to draw, edit and modify images
such as drawings and photos. Examples are Photoshop, Illustrators and Maya.

5. CONTEMPORARY FILM
 Cinematography and Film in the contemporary period has evolved a lot as technology has been
used to ease the work of the cast, crew and the film Director. Contemporary developments in film
making now involves animation, computer- generated imagery, stop motion and video art.
 RPG Metanoia is the first full length Philippine animated film presented in 3D. A 2010
computer- animated adventure film produced by Ambient Media, Thaumatrope Animation and
Star Cinema.
 Saving Sally is a 2016 English-language Philippine animated-live romantic comedy directed
by Avid Liongoren based on a short story written by Sawit- Esguerra in 2002 entitled as
Monster Town.

6. CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE
 Much has changed in how written materials specifically literature is read in the contemporary
period. Written narratives, short stories, novels and the like are not necessarily found on published
materials anymore but largely on on-line sources such as the Tagalog Online Pocketbook,
Pinoypub.ph, Wattpad and the like.
 Electronic books or Ebooks has indeed facilitated greater learning as many Filipinos now have
access to the internet which becomes beneficial through Personal Computers as well as hand
held gadgets or mobile devices.

7. CONTEMPORARY PERFORMING ARTS


 The award winning Shadow play performed by the El Gamma Penumbra in Asia’s Got Talent’
Performing art is a form of entertainment created by the artist’s physical presence as a medium.
The traditional ways of presenting dances, song performances and even plays are now influenced
by technology and the ingenuity of mind of its creative writers, producers and performers.
 Shadow Play is actually a traditional form of story- telling and entertainment using puppets, a
blanket or curtain and lights to project the shadow.

Step 1 Watch any film with your chosen genre.
Step 2 Create a review on the following:
a. Story Line or plot;
b.Acting of the characters;
c. Setting;
d.Cinematography
Step 3 Encode it on a short bond paper to be submitted on after Intrams.
