III. OBJECTIVES:
Now one of the criminals hanging there reviled Jesus, saying, “Are you not the
Messiah? Save yourself and us.” The other, however, rebuking him, said in reply,
“Have you no fear of God, for you are subject to the same condemnation? And
indeed, we have been condemned justly, for the sentence we received corresponds
to our crimes, but this man has done nothing criminal.” Then he said, “Jesus,
remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say
to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”
STORYLINE
(NOTE: The Speaker can use the storyline to better explain the Gospel to the kids.
Be creative! It may be delivered interactively through photos or role playing.)
Have you seen a crucifix? (Let them respond) Yes. It is an image of the cross
where Jesus was nailed. Where can you see a crucifix? (Let them respond) Yes.
Nowadays you can see it hanging above the altar at church or in our homes.
Some people even wear them as necklaces. This cross reminds us that about
2,000 years ago, Jesus suffered and died on the cross for our sins. (ROCK speaker
may show actual crucifixes as visual aid.)
Let us go back to that sad day when most of the people just stood at the foot of
the cross and made fun of Jesus.
Soldiers made fun of Jesus by writing on a piece of wood the words, “This is the
King of the Jews”. Then they nailed it on the cross above Jesus’ head.
Did you know that there were two other crosses that stood on both sides of the
cross of Jesus on that day? (Let them reply)
The two crosses were for the two thieves. One of them shouted at Jesus and
offended him by challenging Jesus to save the three of them since he was
claiming to be the Savior.
The other thief, however, stopped him and told him to fear and respect God
since, unlike them who were both guilty, Jesus was innocent. They deserved
their punishment but Jesus did not.
Then he asked Jesus to forgive him and to remember him when he goes to
heaven. Jesus saw the thief’s sincere sorry and assured him that he will be with
him in paradise.
Our Gospel today teaches us the basic of our faith: that Jesus loves us and
through His death on the cross, He has set us free. Jesus indeed is our King and
Savior.
Materials:
Instructions:
1. Using a board paper, print and cut out the images. (See Appendix 1)
2. Attach the images to the soda bottles.
3. Arrange the bottles in a straight line with the images facing the kids. Designate a
shooting line, 2 meters, away from the bottle.
5. The goal is to toss the rings and have it land over the mouth and neck of one of
the soda bottles. If they fail, they will continue to toss the ring until they will be
successful.
6. A question is asked first before they will toss the ring to the bottle that has their
answers. Here are sample questions:
a. Question #1: Who should we honor and respect first among the group?
(Answer: God)
b. Question #2: Who should we honor and respect second among the
group? (Answer: Parents)
c. Question #3: Who should we honor and respect third among the group?
(Answer: Siblings)
d. Question #4: Who should we honor and respect last? (Friends)
7. The ROCK Facilitator may add questions and process the answers in each
question.
VII. PEPTALK
2. In the Gospel story, we learned that there were two other persons who were
nailed beside Jesus on the cross. These persons represent two kinds of people:
(1) the ones who honor and respect Jesus and (2) the ones who don’t believe in
Jesus.
3. We can learn from the thief who said sorry on how to honor and respect Jesus.
How? (Let them respond). It is by believing that He is our King and He has the
power to bless us and our family.
4. Today, we can show our honor and respect to Jesus through the following:
a. Praying to Jesus: asking Jesus to bless our family, siblings and friends.
b. Being obedient to our parents: always using the power words (Thank you,
Please and Sorry).
c. Helping our siblings: offering to help in doing house chores.
d. Sharing to our friends: learning to be generous
5. These are ways to honor and respect Jesus as the King in our lives. Together, let
us declare: “I will honor Jesus because He is my King.”
• When her husband died, she entered the convent where she offered and gave
away her wealth in order to build monasteries and hospitals. She spent the
remaining years of her life caring for the poor and the sick in the hospital.
• She is the patron saint of bakers, Catholic charities and the Secular Franciscan
Order.

Instructions:
1. Tell your parents to hold a simple meal for the Feast of Christ the King.
2. Gather together as a family and share how Jesus became the King of our lives
through the good things and blessings He has given us.
3. After the meal, pray together the Lord’s Prayer and take turns in saying your
prayers for your family, society, friends and self.
• Today, our children were taught to honor and respect Jesus as our King. They are
reminded to welcome Jesus Christ the King in their young hearts.
• One of the most important things that we need to embrace is to be role models
of for our kids. We are the ones who will encourage and teach our kids to be
thankful and obedient at all times. So as role models, we must be the first to use
the power words (Thank you, Please and I’m sorry)
• There is no better way to teach our children to honor and respect others but
through our way of treating our spouse. With that, we can practice respecting
our spouse by using these words every day:
• Let us practice and do this activity. At the back of the cards (See Appendix 2)
write the following:
o Top 3 recent things that you want to thank your spouse for.
o Top 3 recent things that you want to say sorry to your spouse for.
• Aside from their assignment, let us also take time to discuss the FEATURED
SAINT of the month during our family time (Family Household). Please ask the
intercession of the featured saint during your Family Prayer Time.
