LEARNER - TEACHER RATIO

Every parent wants what is
best for their child, especially when it
comes to education. And in
determining the quality of one’s child
education, the one thing that many
parents look into is the student-
teacher ratio.

Portulin National High School

(PNHS) has an increasing number of
teachers from the year 2016 up to the present. The demand on teachers to teach in
public is growing since the implementation of the Senior High School. From the
school year 2016-2017 up to the next two consecutive years, the number of teachers
in PNHS has grown from 17, 18 to 21 consecutively, including the school principal.
The school is appreciative of the increase of hiring of teachers in the Department of
Education to cover up the vast increase of students in school.

In the past three consecutive years, PNHS has a favorable figure for the
learner–teacher ratio. Though it has an increasing figure, but the learning of the
learners is still at its appropriate speed since the teachers teaching in school are fully
equipped with knowledge and skills in teaching taken from the trainings that they
have undergone.

In Figure 1, it shows that there is an increasing number of learners enrolled in

Portulin National High School from Grade 7 to Grade 12 curriculum. The abrupt
increase is manageable since there is also an increase in the number of teachers.
Due to the increase number of enrolment, there is also an increase demand in the
number of sections per curriculum, so the learners will be distributed, and an
optimum
attention will still
be provided to
each learner and
will still be able to
achieve their
academic goals.
In lieu with this,
an additional
number of
sections are
added to each
curriculum
especially in the
Senior High
School.

An increase number of the students could imply that the parents of the
learners have trust in t he competence of the teachers teaching in Portulin National
High School. The
decrease in the
enrolment among
Senior High is
associated with the
choice of track that is
not offered in the
school.
