Teaching learning materials (TLMs) are the tools, which are used by teachers to help
learners to learn concept with ease and efficiency. Below are the types of teaching materials
used:

1. Audio Aids: It includes human voice, telephonic conversation, audio discs/tapes,

gramophone records, Radio broadcast.
2. Visual Aids: It includes Visual (Verbal) Print e.g. Textbook, Supplementary book.
Reference books, encyclopedia, Magazine, Newspaper, Documents and Clippings,
Duplicated written material, Programmed material , Case Studies/Reports,
3. Visual (Pictorial- Non Projected )–
a) Non-projected two dimensional – Here the TLM is in form of an image or picture e.g.
blackboard writing and drawing Charts, Posters, Maps,Diagrams, Graphs, Photographs,
Cartoons, Comic strips.

b) Non-Projected three-dimensional – This category includes three dimensional

representation of the real object or phenomenon e.g. Models, Mock-up,Diorama, Globe,
Relief Map, Specimen, Puppet, and Hologram.

4. Visual (Projected but still) – Here the images are projected or displayed on a screen and
thus are nearer reality than visual non-projected ones e.g. Slide, Filmstrips, Over Head
Projector (OHP), Microfilm,Micro card, etc.

5. Audio Visual TLMs are the projected aids, which use both auditory and visual senses to
enhance learning e.g. Motion Picture Film, Television, Video discs/cassettes, slide – tape
presentations, Multimedia, Computer.

Anything which can help teachers to understand the topics of a lesson to students is called
TLM. For example a chalk when used to teach as a matter in science class. Chalk is
considered as a teaching aid when used to write in blackboard but when we discuss it as a
matter and it's chemical compound it becomes TLM.

The meaning probably would be the learning material for teaching or what are the things to
be learnt (material) for teaching. Or else the question should be more modified for eg. what
learning material should one collect for teaching? Moreover it can be framed as what is
teachers’ learning material?

° I am teaching learning material of the students to the teachers. (This means I am taking a
class to the teachers on the learning material provided by the board which is hard for the
teachers to teach as well as the students to understand.)
So this question can be marked as a mock question to criticize someone when one had
replied “I was teaching the learning material”.

Along with those materials, the most important teaching learning tool is Patient,
attentive listening.

None of the materials help in teaching learning process, unless a learner pays attention
and Listens.

Vedas are also called as Shruti. They were passed on to disciples orally and students learnt
scriptures through listening and reciting .

Even in present technology based teaching, if, students don't pay attention and don't listen
to instructions given, the results would be...….

Listen, ‘To listen' is the first step and first tool of learning. :)

Materials who help to clearing of any concepts while teachers are teaching are called
teaching learning material .Ex card board ,table,stick,black board,wooden&plastics models
etc.
