the poorest state of Odisha the hardest, leaving many without power and communications lines, and
is now moving through Bangladesh.

• More than a million people were

evacuated away from the coast
in India alone.
• A total of 59 million people in
Bangladesh could be exposed to
cyclone wind.

CAUSES OF CYCLONE :-

Tropical cyclones, hurricanes or typhoons form when

convection causes warm, moist air above the ocean to
rise. They begin as a group of storms when the water
gets as hot as 80 °F (27 °C) or hotter. The Coriolis
effect made by the Earth's rotation causes the winds to
rotate. Warm air rises quickly.
EFFECTS OF “FANI”
CYCLONE:-
● Impact of 'Fani' is likely to be much more
severe than 'Titli' that had killed at least 60
people. Cyclone 'Fani' has intensified into
an 'extremely severe cyclonic storm' with
wind speed likely to hit 200 kmph at the
time of landfall.
● Cyclone Fani has shown the vulnerability
of low-lying areas to flooding, a risk that
will only increase as climate change
continues to influence global weather
patterns and lead to higher sea levels.
PATHWAY OF “FANI”
CYCLONE :-
Cyclone Fani, packing winds of 120 mph, is set to
slam eastern India on Friday, bringing with it
destructive winds, rain totals topping a foot and a
potentially devastating storm surge. ... AccuWeather
reports more than 100 million people are in the path
of the storm, whose winds are equivalent to a
Category 3 hurricane.
Prayer for those affected by Cyclone Fani
You who calmed the storm
You whose light shines in the darkness
You who walks with us through the valley of the shadow of death.
Be a refuge and strength
For our brothers and sisters
In India
In Bangladesh.
As the cyclone roars,
Be a voice of calm.
As panic rises,
Bring your peace.
As fear takes its toll,
May hope spring forth.
We pray for safety, for refuge, for food and medical attention where needed most desperately.
Open our hearts to hear the cries of our neighbours.
In your name we pray, Amen.
STEPS TAKEN BY
GOVERNMENT:-
NDRF Director-General said, 81 teams of NDRF has been developed along the affected
coastline.

The Indian Coast Guard and the Navy have deployed ships and helicopters for relief and rescue
operations. Army and Air Force units in the three States have also been put on standby.

In neighbouring Bangladesh, the government has issued mass evacuation orders in 19 coastal
districts to prevent casualties from the cyclone. The cyclone is expected to make landfall in
Bangladesh today after hitting Indian coastlines.

The Home Ministry's Control Room helpline number for Cyclone Fani 1938 is operational to
provide latest information. Odisha’s emergency helpline number for Cyclone Fani is
06742534177.

The Railways has also released helpline numbers: Bhubaneswar- (0674-2303060), Puri- 06752-
