The Daybreak’s Glory

The Daybreak’s Glory, painted by Juvenal Sanso in circa 2000s, is said to be a painting
that Sanso created while only having a limited selection of paint in his work place, which I find
amazing how Sanso could still come up with a wonderful work of art. This simply suggests that
you can find beauty in anything and create something wonderful from it as long as you have the
passion for it.

The Daybreak’s Glory is a painting that I find beautiful as it portrays beauty by having a
monochromatic scheme in which it mainly uses the three primary colors; first one is red, where
he used for painting the clouds in the foreground and in parts of the landscape, yellow, which he
used beside the grass in the foreground and in the clouds near the background, and blue, which
he used for the sky and the water, while adding a touch of green, violet and orange that act as
complementary colors to these primary ones. These combinations of colors and how it
complements each other is something that would make you feel at peace and admire how
beautiful the artwork is. The painting becomes an alluring one because not only does it have a
nice combination of colors, but it also creates a sense of real space in a way that it has both a
linear and an aerial perspective. There is a linear perspective as it has a vanishing point
wherein the objects in the pictorial plane gradually disappears in it while the aerial perspective is
shown through in the foreground, where the color is warm, the texture is clear and the values
are lower while in the background, the color is cool, the texture is hazy and the values are
higher. I noticed how some of the lines in the painting seem to overlap like how one mountain
would overlap another and thus, creating a sense of depth. I could also say that there is
movement in the painting, not only in a sense that you imagine the water flowing and the clouds
moving, but also movement with your eyes; the patches of different colors that alternate make
you look at the painting closely and it makes your eyes transition from one color to another,
which makes you look at each part of the painting and not just the painting as a whole.

Overall, the painting shows how beautiful and peaceful the daybreak is, how the water
could be calm, how the skies could match the alluring color of the sea while the clouds could
catch the relaxing color of the morning daylight and how the sun shares its harmonious light to
the beautiful landscape. All of these colors in the painting, all the elements in it, depict the
glorifying moment in daybreak, thus the title of the work of art.
