● Bill Gates
● Born as William „Bill“ Henry Gates III on 28.
October 1955 in Seattle, Washington
● Parents: William H. Gates, Sr. and Mary Maxwell

● Siblings: 1 elder sister Kristianne, 1 younger sister

● Visited Lakeside h.s. from 68 – 73, where he
discovered his passion for programming
● Enrolled in harvard in 1973
● Left Harvard in 1975 without a graduation for
microsoft

● Paul Gardner Allen (born January 21, 1953)
● Born in Seattle, Washington
● Visited same hs. as Bill Gates, where they became
friends
● Attended Washington State University
● Dropped out after 2 years → worked as a
programmer
● Convinced Gates to quit Univ. and to raise Microsoft
 The rise of Microsoft
● Founded in 1975 by Gates and Allen
● They have read in an Computer magazine about a
new Computer, the Altair 8800. Gates called the
Producer and offered to develop an implementation
of the programming language BASIC for the Altair.
● They had no interpreter(something like eclipse) nor
an Altair, yet they were able to fullfill their offer
● The producer of the Altair acceptet their interpreter
and decided to distribute it.
● Gates and allen quitted their previous Job/studies
and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where the
Producer of the Altair was located
● The revenue of Microsoft was in 1975 1000000$
● 1978: Microsofts first international office was
established in Japan
● 1979 they moved to Bellevue, Washington
● They changed their corporate form into an inc.
– Gates became the first president of the company and
Chairman of the Board, and Paul Allen became Executive
Vice President
● 1980: Xenix, MS's first OS, was published
Microsoft "blibbet" logo, filed August 26, 1982 at the USPTO and
used until 1987
● 1981, after negotiations with Digital Research
failed, IBM awarded a contract to Microsoft to
provide a version of the CP/M operating
system, which was set to be used in the
upcoming IBM Personal Computer (PC)

breakthrough on the market

● You could sumarize MS's business strategies
with 3 words: embrace, extend and extinguish
● Ms copies a product, extends it,establishs it and
pushs out it rivals
● This strategy lead to many many charges
● They also abuse their power to bind partners to
them ,to make them dependent or disable
sevices like msn for rival products
● MS has been charged by rivals as well as by
nations(primary the U.S.) and private persons
● Several MS products have been ''inspired'' by
rival products
● MS also bought PC salesman over to sell their
pc's with a MS OS pre-installed and nothing
else
● MS also swallowed many rivals, which caught
the eye of the department of justice

● Xenix
● Xenix is a version of the Unix operating system,
licensed by Microsoft from AT&T in the late 1970s
● It included a very primitive office program and
development kits
 MS DOS
● MS-DOS grew from a 1981 request by IBM for
an operating system for its IBM PC range of
personal computers
● MS quickly bought the rights to QDOS (Quick
and Dirty Operating System), also known as 86-
DOS, from Seattle Computer Products, and
began work on modifying it to meet IBM's
specification
● Established MS as the leading OS company
● MSX DOS
● MSX-DOS is a Disk operating system developed by
Microsoft for the 8-bit home computer standard
MSX, and is a cross between MS-DOS rev 1.0 and
CP/M.

● Windows 1.0 is a 16-bit graphical operating
environment that was released on 20 November
1985. It was Microsoft's first attempt to implement a
multi-tasking graphical user interface-based
operating environment on the PC platform.

● Okay I think that was enough. Actually, I wanted
to show and tell you about other products by
MS,but most of them are boring and don't
interest you anyways,so I'm also going to skip
the whole office stuff etc. nobody engages
oneself in this stuff for fun anyways.
● I've chosen a couple of MS Products which are
quite interesting
● Those are the games and MS surface.You
probably never heard of latter,but I will fix that
● Let's start with the games: The most
remarkable games by MS,or by one of MS's
sub-enterprises, are:
● The Age of Empires series
● Halo
 Age of empires
● Real-time strategy game
● Consists of following parts:
● Age of empires(1997): It's based in a pre-ancient
time or better said, you play the leader of a village
of neandertalers, which you have to bring through
the beginning of mankind.You can either play a
campaigne or a single game against the PC or
another player. You can choose between several
ancient civilisations like the egypts or less known
civilsations like yamato(ancient japanese people)
● AoE: The rise of rome(1998)
● An add-on for the first AoE.Like the namesuggests,
you can play Cäsar and conquer the world for your
empire
● AoE II:the age of kings(1999)
● Plays in the medieval.You can play european
civilisations(Germans,britains),Asian(japanese,
chinese) and oriental(turks,arabs)
● The graphics are better than in AoE1
● Age of Empires II: The Conquerors(2000)
● Add-on for AoE 2: You can play now south-
american civilisations and the spanish conquerors
● AoE III(2005)
● The actions in the game take place fom 1500-
1900
● Available civilisations:

● AoE III: the war chiefs: The story takes place in
the U.S. In the 18. century.You are gonna play
cowboy(or cowgirl) and indian
● Enough of AoE
● Now to a mor dynamic game: Halo
● Halo was released in 2005 and is a sci-fi
shooter. The world in the year 2552. The
mankind was forced to settle foreign planets
because the earth is overpopulated. With the
discovering of more and more planets,the man
is discovered by a highly-developed alien
alliance, who wants to dominate the universe
● Mankinds last hope is the master chief, the last
remaining Member of a special unit of
● Genetically Modified super soldiers,or better
said:YOU
● You were able to escape fom an attack of the
alliance on an artificial planet called
Halo,which is actually a super weapon of the
alliance to destroy the mankind.Well,guess
what? Right,you are going to blow the planet
into pieces
● Halo 2(2004):
● A fanatic religious leader of the alliance tries to
activate one of the halos, superweapons for
destroying every intelligent form of life. Well, you
probably already know who's gonna stop this crazy
guy
 Microsoft surface
● Microsoft is a table like touch screen
computer.You don't need a mouse or a
keyboard to use it a hand is enough.Unlike with
a touchscreen,surface can handle several
hands.It can even recognize objects like
Cameras and mobile phones. You can even
paint on it with a real brush
