a. CASE NARRATIVE
Teacher Jose (not his real name) has been in the teaching profession for 3
years. He’s handling Kindergarten in a multi-grade school in seaside district here in the
3rd Congressional district in Quezon. Since their head teacher handles two schools at
the same time, she (the head teacher) mostly stays in her first designated school, which
was the other school. Since July this year, the DepEd Division of Quezon already
System which aims to monitor the daily attendance of all the personnel in the
department. Apparently, the school where Teacher Jose is designate, follows the said
Division Memorandum, they implemented the Biometric System instead of the former
system of submitting Daily Time Record or DTR. In addition to that, the District
absence during Mondays or Fridays, if they do so, they should submit Form 6 or the
official application for leave and wait for it to be approve by immediate supervisor. Aside
from being a teacher, we all plays special role in our family, in times of family matters,
we can’t neglect and turn away from it. There is this one circumstance when Teacher
Jose has to attend a family matter during class hours and leave his pupils. Since its
urgent matter, he just informed her head teacher through text message about his
situation and his head teacher also confirmed her approval on the matter.
b. ISSUE/ PROBLEM
Teacher Jose takes his absence for two consecutive days and thought that
since he informed his head teacher about his family situation will be considerate about it
and won’t formally take it as absence. Since they’ve been implementing the biometric
system, there has been no log time for the date he was absent. During their staff
meeting, he opened up the topic about his absence and his head teacher assured him
that she will justify it and not note it as absent. But when their payslip came, he
confirmed that he was deducted of two days salary because of his absence. When he
asked his head teacher again, she said that it is considered as absence because there
is no log time in the biometric system. When they first talk about it, his head teacher
assured him of her consideration about that matter but when the payslip came, it proved
otherwise.
consideration that since there have been a biometric system in the school, accomplish a
Form 6 or application of leave in advance so that when situation calls, it can be easily
use for uncalled absences but make sure that you have service credits that you can
use.
e. RECOMMENDATION
helps us do our job accordingly. We have to take actions with accordance to what rules
and regulations we have. We should also take into consideration that we have different
to urgent situations especially if it concerns our family but we must consider our role as
teachers first. It is easier to judge and talk about someone when we don’t like what
they’ve done, more so if it the one who is supervising us. It is good to have good
relationship with our supervisors or head teachers, so that we can foster better
communication and understanding with everyone in our school. But we shouldn’t head
much of our expectations that our supervisors will be considerate all of the time. There
are areas or duties and function wherein we should be strictly in abidance and we must
understand that. We just have to hold our expectation of our supervisor to a level of
