Plant Files
Thank you for purchasing CadPlants Desert Plants. This volume contains 320 images of common desert plants. This is the perfect
way to add detail and realism to your professional designs and presentations.
Plants are provided in three formats: JPG, TGA, and SketchUp SKP. Each plant in JPG format consists of two files: one for color
and another for alpha. Plants in TGA format include the color and alpha information in the same file. Note: Plants in SKP and TGA
format are compressed into ZIP files so they fit on the DVD.
Each SKP file contains the plant image in two formats: polygonal and billboard. The polygonal version is a high-resolution polygon
that accurately follows the contour of the plant image, a must for realistic shadows. The billboard version is a simple rectangle and
ensures complex scenes remain fast and responsive. You can easily switch between versions by showing and hiding the
appropriate layers. Use the low-resolution layer for editing, and then switch to the high-resolution layer for final rendering.
Note: SKP textures have been reduced in size to a maximum of 1024 in width and height. This is necessary for fast rendering on
3D video cards.
These file formats are very common and work with all popular CAD software. If you need the files in another format, you can
convert them using any number of free or low-cost conversion programs available on the Internet.
Files are named using the following format: CPXYNNN, where CP stands for CadPlants, X is a letter indicating the plant library, Y
is the plant library volume number, and NNN is a sequence number. Alpha files have a file name ending with the letter a.
The file plantdata.csv is a spreadsheet with each plant’s file name, common name, botanical name, USDA planting zones, age at
maturity (in years), height at maturity (in inches), and image width and height in pixels. You can use the mature age and height to
determine the approximate size of the plant in your designs. You can open plantdata.csv using any version of Microsoft Excel,
other spreadsheet program, or text editor.
See www.CadPlants.com/zones.php for the list of planting zones.
