Introduction
Rules are necessary for –

1) Maintenance of discipline

2) Creating a peaceful and congenial environment, for education, research and human
resource development

The University takes care to see if rules are followed as it believes that only through
discipline each and every member of it can achieve his/her goals.

Ultimate goal of Hostel Rules 2019, like all the previous ones, is to create a sensitive human
being-who can contribute to a harmonious society using the skills acquired here.

Factor Categories
This questionnaire considers all the important factors while assessing the awareness among
hostelites of NMH. All these factors are taken as questions which can be answered in four
different ways (Yes/No/Not Sure/Not Bothered To Know) according to which awareness
regarding the Hostel rules, 2019 can be measured.

Objectives
The main objectives of this study are:

 To find out the awareness on Hostel rules 2019 among hostelites of NMH.

 To see if there exists any element that affects this awareness.

 To establish guidelines for its general improvement.

Classifiers
 According to the factors in the Questionnaire, the respondents can be classified in
broad two classifiers, these are following.

 (a) Under-Graduate students

 (b) Post-Graduate students

2
Awareness Factors
1. Basics

 Hostel Administration- DSW, ADSW, Senior Warden, Wardens for Health &
Recreation, Sanitation & Maintenance, and Mess Constitute it, and also includes the
student functionaries.

 Student Functionaries- Prefect, Asst. Prefect, Hostel Committee, Mess Committee,

Mess Secretary, Mess Manager.

 Other Hostel Stuff-Caretaker, Cook, Helper (Mess), Security Guard, Sanitation Guide
(Safaiwala), Sanitation Inspector.

2. General rules

 Admission, Transfer, Withdrawal, Leave Rules, Guest Accommodation, Visitors,

Night Roll call, Misconduct and Indiscipline, Action against Offenders.

3. Disciplinary Committees- Hostel Level and University level, Special Power of VC,
Appeal and Interpretation of the Rules.

4. Mess- Hostelites, but DSW can allow for Day-Boarders in Special Circumstances.

5. Health Care Services.

6. Sports, Culture and Recreation.

7. Management of Hostel Funds.

Conclusion
From my observations, I have concluded that -Awareness among hostelites of NMH varies
depending upon the factors.

1. Students seem to have good knowledge about the basic rules, while they seem to have
considerable knowledge about the general rules, and the rules regarding Sports and
Recreation as well as the Health Care Services.
3
2. However, the students seem to have limited knowledge regarding the Disciplinary
committee and the management of the hostel funds.

Hence, the management should try creating more awareness, which in turn will help
improve performance as well as transparency.
