TDS 9S (Customer Config: 122334) conversion to TDS 9SA (referred to customer config : 30152751)

1. Gear Box/ Main Body


When comparing the gear box assembly of TDS 9S (109516) with that of TDS9SA(117922) below
are the differences
a. Bottom phase (RLA mounting area) of the gear box is longer on TDS 9S gear box than the
TDS 9SA.

b. The RLA mounting area is bigger on the TDS 9 S when compared to the TDS 9SA gear box

c. The shot pin mounting location is dimensionally different on TDS 9S and TDS 9SA
(highlighted in yellow below). Hyd pump/motor assembly mounting point is dimensionally
different (highlighted in green below). RLA mounting holes are different dimensionally
different when replacing the TDS9S RLA (p/n: 113690) with the TDS9SA RLA (p/n: 30118150)
– (highlighted in blue below). Main manifold mounting location on the TDS 9S is not having a
bolting point as on TDS 9SA (highlighted in red below)

Considering the above said differences, this involves large amount of machining work for which we will
need engineering approval. Or the gear box body will need to be replaced.

d. Retainer, bearing upper stem- TDS 9SA (p/n: 30176112) & TDS9S(p/n:118668)

2. Carriage assembly

The carriage assembly on the TDS 9 S (p/n: 117622) is slide type and the carriage assembly on
the TDS9SA (p/n:124540) is the standard roller type. It is possible to convert the carriage
assembly of the TDS9 S (slide type) to standard roller type as the mounting location holes are of
the same dimension on both the assemblies (highlighted in yellow below). Also the shipping skid
beam need to be ordered- p/n: 124516 ref drwg: 124972.
3. Main shaft
If the gear box and RLA is being changed to the TDS 9SA design then the main shaft will need to
be replaced. The bull gear, compound gears and pinion gear need to be replaced from spur gear
to helical gear if required by the customer.

4. Link tilt and Pipe handler assembly

The TDS 9S pipehandler package is 110050(PH 50) with double acting cylinder link tilt assembly. The
TDS9SA pipehandler package is 117820 (PH50) single acting cylinder. This need to be changed as the
mounting is different on both.
5. Shot pin assembly will need to be replaced if the RLA and gear box is being upgraded

6. Main manifold assembly is the same.


7. Guard assembly is different on both units.
