ASSIGNMENT:

1. In the context of human rights, how do we reconcile the enigma of

DDS and Yellow’s hateful views of different issue

The word “dutertards”, started out as a pejorative. It was used by those who hate
President Duterte to label his supporters, as shorthand for “Duterte retards”, in
retaliation for the latter’s use of “Yellowtard” to describe them. This way of
thinking is cancer that afflicts our democracy. It is the premise that makes our
politics so primitive.

The Philippines as archipelago is hard to concord. Even during the pre-colonial

period, each island had unique laws and beliefs that even carried up to this day.
This sums up the undying gap between Filipinos. We are very hard to unite because
of our egos and pride that we acquire from our ancestors. Up to these modern days,
even though technology can unite everyone, our close-minded ideologies will only
bring us conflict, will only create walls instead of bridges. We must cry for
Universality to keep the peace and harmony to our country.

In the context of human rights, I think the best way to reconcile the enigma of DDS
and Yellows’ is by observing the qualities of human rights. Filipinos either DDS
or yellows must observe “Universality” among diversity. This means that citizens
of the Philippines will afford justice and charity to each other only if we respect
the higher authority of the constitution that We as a people have enacted to govern
our affairs. Filipinos must be educated in whatever platform to know the absolute
truth. Media, as the common tools for mass awareness must not be bias.
Professional preachers must teach Filipinos to seek for the truth and not just settle
only for what was preach. Everyone must be open for truth, even if it hurts one
another. Because having just an opposing knowledge is a war itself, no one can
win against other who believe they were right. The enigma of DDS and Yellows’
rooted from difference of beliefs among what they personally experience and what
they believe was the absolute truth preached from their trusted individuals. When
an individual believes something and they meet someone with the same beliefs,
they form a union of what they believe was the truth and when those beliefs are
consolidated, they become a solid group of close-minded and fools.
2. Discuss: A nation divided of hatred is a fool’s lair.

Our division today isn’t only cross-partisan and interpersonal, but increasingly
intrapersonal. We are divided not only as nation, but also as individuals from
within our own very being. Philippines, just like any nation is in war because of
the differences of our beliefs. DDS and Yellows’ are modern representation of
word ward. In the heated national debate today, the war on drugs, the battle of
Marawi, then dengvaxia issues, the SOGIE bill, the rice tariffication Law and the
undying issues to corrupt government. We, Filipinos just reenact the parable of
Indian blind and elephant in our real lives when we refuse to acknowledge the
different perspectives of reality that our neighbors truthfully see from their own
vantage point. Even with our eyes open, we betray ourselves as a nation of blind
and fools.

Our archipelagic land becomes hindrance to our unity. It may be forming the lack
of consciousness that Filipinos have still to summon the will to meet satisfactorily
the challenges facing the country as archipelagic state. Even before pre-colonial
period, our lack of common mindset and beliefs creates gap among us. We need to
work-out our misunderstanding to build a strong foundation of better nation. We
need not to be self-conceited, egoistic and narcissist. We must acknowledge that
what we believe was right was always right. Everything is different in our own
perspective. Our understanding and judgment are based on our personal
experiences, thus make us different over one another. But we can work-out our
differences by understanding each other, by respecting each belief, by seeking the
absolute truth without compromising the welfare of the majority. Just like the act
of drug of war of Pres. Duterte, I am personally convinced that something is out of
the line, that probably be the reasons of others to seek for truth, but on the other
hand, I think it was the solution sorted up by the President to lessen the drug cases
on our country, which was a huge goal to a rotting nation.

We, living on an era where misunderstanding results to war, our mind is very
fragile to the absolute truth. Whatever is feed in our mind, we tend to believe it.
Especially in our modern day, where technology can allow everyone to reach the
unreachable, to preach the unreasonable.
