Differentiation Differentiation can be achieved by:
 Allowing more simple descriptions
 Giving struggling Ss sentences with gaps instead of
asking them to write entirely on their own.

Activities:
Warm up (3 m)
- Revising the concept of creative writing.
- Introducing the concept of showing vs. telling as a tool for creative writing.
PPT (10 minutes) (demonstration)

Daily lesson plan
Ss are introduced to some telling sentences vs. some showing ones.
Reading (10 minutes) (I and P work)
Ss are given an extract which they read silently then highlight examples of descriptive
writing or showing vs. telling.
Brainstorming and role playing (15m) (whole class)
Asking Ss to attribute feelings to body language and asking volunteers to act out the
feelings.
Practice (15 minutes)
- Ss are given telling sentences and asked to turn them into showing ones.
- Going round the class and giving struggling Ss sentence starters or some help
with expressions
Oral presentation (10 m)
Volunteers are allowed to the front of the class and read out their sentences.
Closure:
Ss are given the exit slip to evaluate their understanding.
Homework:
- Ss are given some telling sentences to turn into showing ones.
- Students are given an exam- style paper in which they answer some questions on
a reading extract.
