Introduction
Ratio is the quantitative relation between two amounts showing the number of times one
value contains or contained within the other. In this School Based Assessment (SBA) the
researchers will be talking about ratio of colours in skittles. The reason for doing this specific
topic is because members would like to know the ratio of colours in a skittle. Are they
strategically placed into each pack or just randomly packaged. After doing this investigation it
would allow us to have a better understanding of ratio.
2
Method of Collecting Data
Three packs of skittles were purchased from a close by supermarket. Each pack of skittles
was counted after which it was divided/separated into different colours. The number of skittles of
each different colour was counted and compared to determine the ratio of colours. The procedure
was repeated using three (3) different packs of skittles to determine to see if the different packs
of skittles were the same.

Analysis of Data
The number of skittles in pack one (1) was two skittles more than pack two (2), while in
pack three (3) the skittles were the same amount in pack one (1). In pack one (1) the colours
were: orange, yellow, green, red and purple. In pact two (2) the colours were: orange, green,
pink, blue and yellow. In pack three (3) the colours were: blue, red, green, purple and pink. In
pack two (2) the number of orange were four more than the amount that was in pack one (1),
while in pack three (3) there were no oranges. In pack two (2) the number of yellows were four
more than the amount that was in pack one (1), while in pack three (3) there were no yellow. In
pack one (1) the number of green were two more than in pack two (2), while in pack three (3)
there were two more than in pack two (2) and in pack one (1) there were four more green than
what was in pack three (3). In pack three (3) the number of red was one more than in pack one
(1) while in pack two (2) there were no red. In pack three (3) the number of purple were three
more than in pack one (1), while in pack two (2) there were no purple. In pack three (3) the
number of pink were four more than in pack two, while in pack one (1) there were no pink. In
pack three (3) the number of blue were one more than in pack two (2), while in pack one (1)
there were none. In pack two (2) there were two less of skittles than what was in pack one (1),
while pack one (1) and pack three (3) had the same amount.
In pack one (1) the percentage for orange was 22% while in pack two (2) the percentage
was 28.8%. In pack one (1) the percentage of yellow was 16.9% while in pack two (2) the
percentage was 24.5%. In pack one (1) the percentage for green was 18.6%, in pack two (2) the
percentage was 15.7% while in pack three (3) the percentage was 11.8%. In pack one (1) the
percentage for red was 22% while in pack three (3) the percentage 23.7%. In pack one (1) the
percentage for purple was 20.3% while in pack three (3) the percentage 27%. In pack two (2) the
percentage for pink was 8.7% while in pack three (3) the percentage was 15%. In pack two (2)
the percentage for blue was 21% while in pack three (3) the percentage 22%.
