Insert your Preliminary Task questions here and its answer below each questions.

1. Depict the bending test scheme that will be performed in this practice, explain.

2. Derive the eq. 2 for specimen with circular cross-section

Basic equation:
MC
σ = I
Where M is the bending moment, C is the distance from the neutral axis, and I is the inertial
moment of the cross section. The value of M can be obtained by
PL
M = 4
And for circular cross section, the value of I is known to be
4
πd
I = 32
So, the overall equation will be
PL d
4P L
σ = 4 2
πd4
= πd3
32

3. Explain the steps to obtain the modulus of elasticity of a material by using bending test
Through the bending test, the value of modulus of elasticity can be obtained by calculating
equation (3).
3
PL
δ= 48EI
This equation shows that by having the value of δ (deflection), P (load), L (specimen length),
and I (inertial moment of the cross section), we can get the value of E (modulus of elasticity).

4. Depict the normal stress distribution caused by bending along the cross-section of the
specimen.
