Dear Assistive Technology Facilitator Robyn Jung,

On behalf of Kevin Jacobs, I am writing you to request your assistance in purchasing Kevin a Chromebook that
has access to Co-Writer that he would be able to utilize at home.
Kevin is a 3rd grade student at Wilson Elementary School. He is diagnosed with a specific learning disability in
reading, dyslexia, and a speech and language impairment. Kevin has an IEP and receives supports and services
from our resource program. Also, Kevin is currently in tier 3 for both math and writing. Kevin is socially
comfortable, happy, and artistic. He’s aware he learns differently and has maintained a positive attitude towards
learning; he is never afraid to ask for help. In writing, he is working on spacing his letters appropriately and
writing in complete sentences with proper punctuation and age appropriate spelling. Kevin also has low writing
stamina. Kevin has great ideas and loves to tell stories but struggles when he has to write it down. He requires a
high level of support to complete a writing assignment. Kevin has a good attitude about going to his resource
teacher for reading and comes in every day ready to work. He is very pleasant and positive every day. When
decoding individual words, Kevin has a hard time attending to all the components of a word. He may read the
initial sound correctly, but makes a mistake when reading the vowel sound or ending sound. Kevin is reading at
the first grade level.
I believe that Kevin would really benefit from having a Chromebook at home with Co-Writer. The only laptop
that is at home is his parent’s work computer. Although, this computer is not always available to him and does
not have the programs he needs. In 3rd grade, expectations are increasing and Kevin is receiving more
homework that involves writing. Without technology these tasks become difficult. Additionally, Kevin would
benefit from the various websites that allow him to read and listen to a book. Kevin is eager about completing
extra practice and homework at home, but often gets frustrated without the necessary supports.
If you have any questions or would like to talk about this further, you may contact me at (847) 398-4297 or at
kkarrasch@sd25.org. You may also contact the family at 847-123-4567 or at Jacobsfamily@gmail.com. If you
feel as though you cannot support the Jacobs family, please send us any information you may have about other
ways this family can get a Chromebook with Co-Writer.

Thank you for your time and consideration to this important matter.

Sincerely,

Katie Karrasch
