Remove the lid on the cylinder by tapping the lid lightly with a plastic faced hammer to loosen it.

Note: Do not prise the lid up with a screwdriver etc.

Remove the screw which holds the piston to the piston rod.

Remove the cylinder and shims.

Remove the cylinder from the piston.
Remove the seal rings and support straps from the piston.

Remove the piston rod seal from the cylinder.

Special tools: 9992107

Other special equipment: 9986173 9986179

Clean, and check that the cylinder is undamaged. If the cylinder bore is scored, it must be changed.
Clean the cover.
Change the seals on the piston.

Half fill the space between the piston rod seal lips with grease 1161963.
Oil the outside of the piston rod seal.
Press the piston rod seal into the cylinder.

Clean the hole and mating face of the cylinder against the range housing.

Grease the piston rod with grease 1161963.

Put a string of sealant on the cylinder mating face against the range housing, if there is no O-ring.
Install the cylinder and any shims on the range housing.

Half fill the space between the seal lips with grease 1161963.
Grease the cylinder with grease 1161963.

Install the seals and support straps on the piston. Grease the piston and seals with grease 1161963.
Install the O-ring to seal between the piston and piston rod.
To avoid damage to the seals during assembly, install a piston ring compressor 9998351 on the piston.

Use the longest screw on the lid as a guide when installing the piston in the cylinder, to ensure that the O-ring on the
piston rod does not fall down into the cylinder.
Insert the screw into the piston, screw it into the piston rod.

Note: Check that the depression in the piston is aligned towards the piston rod.

Then slide the piston in towards the piston rod.

Remove the screw which was used as a guide.

Install the screw which retains the piston. Torque to the specified value.

Install a new O-ring 3094588 on the cover, install the cover. Torque the screws alternately, as specified, one spanner
flat at a time, to avoid leakage.
