I: Ma’am, Please tell me your roles and responsibilities in your department?

R: I am Dr. Ayesha, Associate professor, medical doctor and head of the department in institute
of public health in Six years. We run a program of MS in public health which is equivalent to
M.Phil and affiliated with Quaid-e-azam University. Here we offer different courses t and
nutrition is one of the elements in these. We are research based, and management is also
comes includes in this and there is some other courses including stats, management, nutrition,
environmental and other courses.

I: Pplease tell me the no of faculty members you have in your institution?

R: we have six.

I: what is the ratio of the males and females in it?

R: all are female.

I: wWhat is the standard qualification for the faculty?

R: Tthey must be MSC in Public Health or M Phil.

I: Wwhat are the nutritional based researches going on in your department?

R: Wwe are working on under nutrition, research related to the schools and we are working
onas under privilege schools .as such we don’t have plans.

I: Wwhat are the areas which require research but they are neglected?

R: In the regards of nutrition majorly there should be on dietary intake of the school going
children, with vitamin A and E Deficiency, there should be work on micro nutrient deficiency.
We have done a case study on the deficiency of Vitamin D issues and visual aspects. We look
that nutrition with oral health is also compromised with the nutritional health in children,
poverty, nutrition and communicable diseases makes a triangle from which children can’t get
out, similarly nutrition in pregnant ladies and reproductive girls from adolescenceadrolesance
to 39 years of age having different stages of life at different levels that are unbalanced even
this is required to be update to the professionals as well.

I: Pplease tell me how important is the nutritional research for your institution and
department?

R: Nutrition is the backbone of the underline factor of all the health indices, it creates
imbalance. It is the fulcrum for good health., if there is good nutrition then there will be good
immunity. Why should we teach about the disease why not about good health? If there is good
nutrition then there will be good immunity and good health. Formatted: Font: Bold

I: How the research findings of conducted research are shared externally in your institution?

R: These are shared through article presentation, through seminars and consolidated through
the student thesis.

I: Iif we make a scale that the research work is below average, above average or average how
you would categorized it?

R: The research work is above average, but if we have funding it will be skill up more. As there is
no funding so there is no implementation.

I: Pplease tell me if you have attended any training of research methodology regarding nutrition
since you are in this institution?

R: Yyes, I have attended the STPN training and different trainings organized by health sciences
academy or Quaid-e-Azam University.

I: Hhow many of it them are nutrition focused?

R: none.

I: Does your institution conduct trainings regarding nutrition?

R: We are planning to organize trainings for lady health workers for nutrition and once that’s
done thean they will deliver it to the mothers in different areas.

I: So up till now , there is no trainings on research methodology regarding nutrition?

R: Tthere are trainings on research methodologgyies but these are not on nutrition focused.

I: Wwhat is the no number of trainings organized throughout the year relevant to the research
methodology?

R: These are around two or three.

I: Wwhat is the average duration of the trainings?

R: Iit is of three days3 or 5 days.

I: Usually what is the content of the trainings?

R: Content includes introduction, study designs, hands on research, SPSS training, reading and
interpreting the software, Regression Analysis.

I: Wwho are the trainees of the trainings?

R: we have a guest speakers and our own faculty like lecturers etc.

I: And who are the trainers of the training?

R: we call the guests or some specialist.

I: Hhow you make sure that the trainers are eligible for training?

R: Tthey are the masters in their fields and they have given numbero of trainings before.

I: Hhow do you evaluate the outcome of the training?

R: We used to fill pre and post training forms. We ask the trainees about what they have
learned after the training. We take their feedback.

I: Wwho decides the content of the training?

R: we have the standard content for the training.

I: how many publications are there in your institution annually?

R: By including all they are around 10 to 12 annually.

I: Wwhat is the number of nutrition focused publications your institution has annually?

R: These are two or three annually.

I: Hhow many of the nutritional focused training are published in the high impact journals?

R: they goThese are published in the index journal but not in the high impact journal.

I: what are the major food and nutritional issues which can be catered through capacity
building trainings?

R: Ffirst of all awareness and advocacy is plays an important role. People even don’t know to
handle nutritional deficiency. Ppeople do not know that vitamins intake can easily be fulfilled
with things available at home. People go for expensive methods but simple things also work.
Cooking Methods, Hygiene, physical ailments and other physical activities and nutritional
ailments matters a lot.

I: Hhow research topics are identified in your department?

R: All current public health issues are used.

I: what do you think how different software…?

R: of course we use different software. We are using the software WHO that’s very good and
executed very good results.

I: Wwhat do you think how different software’s and different research methods affects the
effective planning and implementation of nutritional research?

R: Of course good results will affect in positive way. but Iif we put lot of finance and efforts but
results are skewed thean it will affect the population. Actual issues will only be solved or
diagnosed through effective research. This is a whole cycle.

I: Wwho are the major facilitators in the trainings conducted in your own institute?

R: Mmajor facilitators are our own Assistant professors and Instructors.

I: Is there any funding?

R: No.

I: what are the major barriers you have encounter during conduction of training?

R: Ffirst of all timing, it’s difficult to spare time so, its time constraint and funding is an issue.

I:I: If we design a research training which focuses on nutrition and you have to appoint a trainer
from your institution. Who you will nominate and why?

R: I will nominate the one who is sincere with his work. He/she has quality work and performs
his job honestly and must be subject specialist and I will also like if he accept it.

I: How you will ensure that the trainer will trickle down the information gained from the
training?

R: Wwhen he will be going for the training we will ensure first thate he will perform the said
duties when he will be back, there will be compulsion with understanding.

I: Aalright.

R: We will ensure to deliver that he will deliver what is invested on him.

I: what should be the idle content for the training of nutrition focused training?

R: what should be Tthe ideal content should be look, there are three things, and one is basic
and , advance and then research. Whatever the research topic is the basic search information
out of it is either it is biochemistry, anatomy, medicine or management. Then, how that
research topic is is evaluated from the software and then the report writing?. So, it is a team
work.

I: what should be the duration of the training and timings in terms of number of days and
timings?

R: Iit should be of 2 weeks, because nutrition is not an easy topic it is an advance topic which
needs to be divided into 2 weeks thean you can deliver the Good result with proper organized
data.

I: what should be the suitable timings of the training?

R: I think morning time is best.

I: whether it should be from 9 onwards?

R: 9 to 2 is good enough and an extra section for hands on practice if required.

I what should be the no of participants of the training?

R: 10 to 12 participant are good enough for that training.

I: Ssimilarly, what should be the number of trainers in theeach training?

R: it depends upon the no of participants and if you plan from 9 to 2 thean there must be one
master trainer with 2 facilitators.

I: Iif a female trainer is involved what would you think there would be a separate different
outcome?

R: no, absolutely not. Man are equally good who are trained in nutrition are equally good.

I: Ma’am tells me when participant are nominated in your institution gender equality matters in
your trainings?

R: Yyes, we must consider, we are favoring the females and males are suffering and it’s wrong.

I: Does there any policy exist with reference to the gender equality?

R: not specifically there is no such written policy. I would favor to work on merit.

I: How the gaps can be dealt with in nutritional research and training?

R: We can deal with it through bBetter training and evaluation. Although we do not have
trainings regarding nutrition that why everyone plans his education in practical according to his
own sense. Whereas every research must be planned properly and there should b monetary
evaluation as monetary evaluation is very important.

I: if an Online sharing portal is made for the SUNAR members what do you thing should be the
features of that portal.

R: Iis there a portal from SUNAR where we have nutritional things?.

I: yes if a portal is designing designed by SUNAR, what do you suggest?

R: First of all you have things for referencing.; Tthere must be the food tables for the male and
females., Table should include their height and weight, food requirements, their physical
activities, fourth what should be the diet in special condition, like for weak children or
optimized cancer patients, females or old age people. All of these have different dietary needs
and there must be a diet table for all of them in the portal.

I: alright.

R: Purpose is not to educate the educated but to benefit the ordinary people as well.

I: Anything else

R: There must be news for all. Healthy nutrition walk can be planned on festivals to attract
youth.
