I. Product feasibility
What product does carousell sell? Well, it is a place to connect buyers and
sellers. For some, that is called classifieds. Other classic examples: eBay.
Carousell is an online marketplace which can further economic activity. Is the
product going to be feasible. Heck, how do we evaluate the feasibility of the
product. The first thing is perhaps through one of these canvasses.
Okay, let’s use the value proposition canvas

Businesses exist to create value. That is the definition of staying ahead.

Therefore, should get as many people as possible – expansion.

Lets find some problems with expansion.

The real war is not in Singapore. Carousell already won. The battle is in
expansion. Why? Well, without scale, it can do nothing.

They still need to expand well into Indonesia. Full of swindlers. 26% leh.

NOTE: CAROUSELL IS C2C ECOMMERCE.

Would you consider Carousell to be an opportunity or just an interesting idea?

Definitely an opportunity. I: E-commerce is growing really well. II: It adds value for its

consumers.

What are the competitive advantages of Carousell? Can Carousell stay ahead in view of the

tough competition in the market?

Carousell has a strong team of co-founders who are driven to achieve their dreams. This might

be the most important advantage Carousell has over its competitors. After having all three

change their lives’ direction towards working full time in Carousell, they were willing to go

through hardships by taking no salary and living frugally. They even had to face pressure from

their loved ones for letting go of stable future plans, but still they pressed on. All of this shows

the lengths Siu Rui, Markus and Lucas are willing to go to lead Carousell onwards. Thus, the

Carousell leadership does not lack commitment.

Part of Carousell’s mission statement explains that “(Carousell is) crafting the most seamless

user experience for people to sell what they don’t need and find what they need.” This seems

to be their methodology to achieve their vision, and it reflects that Carousell’s vision and

mission are well-defined and reasonable. It is realistic since

Ambitious yet Realistic • Concise • Meaningful • Simple • Vivid

We believe that technology is an enabler to solve meaningful problems at scale. We are crafting the

most seamless user experience for people to sell what they don’t need and find what they need.

What are the possible changes Carouselll can make to its business model? How and to what

extent should Carousell make these changes?

Carousell is a consumer-to-consumer classifieds platform which is downloadable on Android

Playstore and the iOS App Store. This paper analyzes the desirability of Carousell and whether it

is going to be a successful business in the future, or only becomes an idea. I hold the view that

Carousell has potential to be a real value-adding platform, but if only it can react accordingly to

the challenges it is going to face in the future.

Problems

Carousell’s problems mainly lie in two areas: how to adapt to the right contexts during their

expansion process and how it can succeed to monetize itself.

The first battle is already won with expansion. The founders had the right idea. All in all, the

population of Singapore is only six million.

Carousell generates revenue from three streams: online advertising, where it partners with

brands and merchants to sell; premium visibility like Bumps and Spotlight, where it charges

sellers to increase customer reach; and Carousell Pro, a subscription service where it partners car

dealers and real estate agents to list their ads.
