Do you think teachers should be constant “deliverers” of information or “facilitators”

of learning?
The education process has become more complex and changing, due both to the demand
of the various actors involved (directors, teachers and parents) as well as the ease of access
to information by students, who put teachers in a constant challenge about their positions
about being deliverers of information or learning facilitators. From this point of view, the role
of teachers appears to be a selection between these two options, but the methodologies of
education process are not radical resources for teachers in the 21st century.
Teachers as constant deliverers represents persons with enough preparation, concepts and
theories to provide students with the necessary knowledge inside a classroom. Practical
experience of specific topics provides teachers with proper skills to teach others, even
though teaching is a continuous learning process for them. From another point of view,
facilitators haven´t enough knowledge to be subject area experts in different matters like
teachers, but they know how to guide and motivate students in order to find knowledge from
different sources and shared it during the educational process.
New technologies and internet access changed the way we get knowledge, this involve the
educational process specially learning at school and home. Teachers must improve their
methodologies and strategies, but it is important to maintain the role as subject area expert
and guide. There are a lot of information that students can access, and it is vital to distinguish
what must be taught and what must be not. For teachers, It is also important to provide
supervision and guide for students, in order to discover new information from those
resources, based on the lesson plans already established.
Finally, we need to remind that there are several kinds of students, with different
characteristics and particular social environmental. A teacher must become an instructor, a
father, a guide, a trainer, a facilitator and a psychologist (from time to time). Due to students
represent the center of the educational process, it is necessary to create an adequate
atmosphere with cooperative and interactive tools according the new technologies, where
teachers must assume different roles as a facilitators or teachers itself. The real success of
the educational process based on the role of teachers is to guarantee students to get proper
knowledge.
