II. LESSON DEVELOPMENT

A: WARM-UP: (Timing: 4 minutes)

The teacher (T) shows a picture, which is on the power point presentation (ppt), to the whole
class. Then, T will ask the students (ss) to describe what do they see in order to introduce
the topic: “Responding to bad news and offering to help”.
B: PROCEDURES (Timing: 30 minutes)

- T explains the ss that an audio will be played and they must T-ss
listen carefully, while following the reading in activity A. (1
minute)
- T ask one student about the first instructions to get T-ss
comprehension check. And the chosen ss will explain it to the ss-ss
whole class. (1 minute)
- Ss open their books. The T plays the audio and the ss listen 0
to it while reading. (2 minutes)
- T asks 3 ss to read the 3 questions on activity A. Then ask T-ss
them to seat in pairs, face to face in order to answer the
previous questions with a partner. Timing for this activity: 5
minutes. (2 minutes)
- Ss answer the question in pairs and the T monitors the ss-ss
activity. T may help if it’s needed. (5 minutes) T-ss
- T collects the answers by asking the pairs to share their T-ss
answers with the class. (2 minutes) ss-ss
- T uses the ppt in order to show useful expressions they will T-ss
need for the following activity. T ask one ss to read each ss-ss
expression to the whole class. (3 minutes)
- T gives a role card to each ss. Then, T explains that each ss T-ss
will role play a situation, according to the card. T gives an ss-ss
example. Instructions: Ss get a role card and role play it with
a partner following the example. Then exchange turns. (2
minutes)
- Comprehension check. Then proceed with the activity. T-ss
Timing: 3 minutes for each turn= 6 minutes. (1 minute) ss-ss
- Ss do the activity. T monitors the activity by walking around T-ss
and help when it's necessary. (6 minutes) ss-ss
- Each pair choose only one situation and perform it in front of T-ss
the class. (5 minutes) ss-ss
- Feedback: Ss will receive sheets. T shows a video and ask T-ss
the ss to help the character from the video to comfort his ss-ss
friend, by using the expressions learned. Ss will have to write
their answer on the sheets. (3 minutes)
