This product data sheet provides information on stainless steel banding grades 316 and 316L. Grade 316 is a chromium-nickel stainless steel alloy containing molybdenum, which gives it increased corrosion resistance and strength at high temperatures. Grade 316L is a low-carbon version of 316 that has improved resistance to corrosion caused by welding. These grades are commonly used in applications that involve chemicals, high heat, or marine environments such as pipes, heat exchangers, and tanks.

316 Grade Material is a chromium nickel stainless steel containing
molybdenum. This addition increases general corrosion resistance, improves resistance to pitting from chloride ion solutions, and provides increased strength at elevated temperatures. Type 316L is an extra-low carbon version of Type 316 that minimizes harmful carbide precipitation due to welding.
Applications
It uses include Pipe line, exhaust manifolds, furnace parts, heat
exchangers, jet engine parts, pharmaceutical and photographic equipment, valve and pump trim, chemical equipment, digesters, tanks, evaporators, pulp, paper and textile processing equipment, parts exposed to marine atmospheres and tubing. For severely corrosive environments or when welding is required, 316L can be sued because of its resistance to intergranular corrosion.
