What is Overpopulation?

According to my research Overpopulation is simply a situation where too many people

live in a location than space, resources can sustain. This means it is not just a specific

number, but relationship between the inhabitants and the resources available.

Overpopulation also is caused by number of factors. Reduced mortality rate, better

medical facilities, depletion of precious resources are few of the causes which results in

overpopulation.

According to George Morris, overpopulation as the state of the population "when there

are more people than can live on the earth in comfort, happiness, and health and still

leave the world a fit place for future generations."

Causes of Overpopulation

It seems that Filipinos are more sentimental than practical. Their lack of discipline,

ignorance of contraception, inability to decide for themselves and “bahala na” attitude

have contributed to the overpopulation in the country.

The facts are clear and the solutions are simple. Lowering the birth rate means free

distribution of contraception to everyone, family planning education and encouraging

households to think for them.

Effects of the Problems

Overpopulation in the Republic of the Philippines is believed to cause sustained

poverty, unemployment and poor economic growth among families by depriving them of
the financial resources that are required to secure education and adequate health care

for their children.

Conclusions

I conclude that overpopulation is still a major problem in our country. Overpopulation

can be the reason why we still suffer from poverty. Filipinos needs a better solution in

this situation wherein they must learn how to control and discipline their selves in order

to reduce the population in our country or in our community.

Recommendation

I recommend that every couple should involve into family planning. Many couples

should attend seminars wherein they are lectured about family planning and

contraception. It is a big help to fight against the issue of overpopulation. And parents of

young couples should discipline their children involving into pre-marital sex wherein it

can lead into early pregnancy and becoming young parents.
