This week you worked on your idea generation and
topic research
We have been asked to research a topic and create 3 different
thing a factual programme, an animation and a short film to do
with British Youth, After we choose our topic, we were then asked to
do research within our chosen topic, after researching our topic in
general, we were then asked to look in detail and pick one topic
within the topic we had chosen. After that we than created
proposals for our three different subjects.
The topic we have chosen is knife crime, however originally we has
3 ideas but we had to pick just one our other ideas were the
education system and mental health, however conclusionary we
decided to go with knife crime but the part we are focusing in on is
What scheme have been put in place to resolve knife crime, we
have chosen this topic as we feel as this is something that need
more attention payed to it and therefore something that people
need to be more educated on, knife crime is still something that Is
increase and this needs to stop, so we want to spread awareness of
it.
After finding out knife crime in general I realised how much of an
issue is it and still to present day is still move up. When doing
research, I discovered the scheme that had been put in place to
try and resolve knife crime, such as “London’s operation Blunt” and
“Damilola Taylor Trust”, after hearing about these two systems they
made me feel safer about knife crime. I learnt how youths that had
committed crime are treated and the steps that the police follow. I
found out the children under the age of 12 can’t be arrested in
England and Wales, and the parent of the minor have to go to
court so they are able to aces the minor living situation.
I am on track this week however the only thing I need to finish is just
looking over my research.

This week you worked on your factual programme
This week I found out just how many subjects go into the idea of
knife- crime, it can be so general and not so you can just say it one
thing. I found it interesting to look at the schemes that had be put in
place to prevent. Knife crime and the story to why they had been
put in place and if they were making a difference they are making.
I also look into the facts and statics to if are if there is an increase or
decrease in knife crime. I also found it interesting to look at other
people story about their experience of knife crime and how it has
affected them.

After planning and diving the work-load among our group, we
choose that I would into the schemes that has been put in place to.
Prevent knife crime, Leila would look into different areas around the
UK that have been affected by knife crime such as Croydon.
Daniella would help us do. General research surrounding knife
crime.
After Leila researching knife crime in Croydon and Reading, we as
a group found about the amount of knife-crime that happened in
both Croydon and Reading. Because Leila had. Previously lived in
Croydon she was familiar was the places she has researched. Also,
some members. Of her family had been included in knife-crime in
Croydon so she was able to connect with this on. A personal level.
I am on track this week.
Further research on areas that have been affected by knife-crime.
Trying to find personal stories, how they have been effected and if it
would be possible. To. Include some in our final piece.
This week you worked on your production
I think having previous knowledge that I had gathered pre-
production really helped when filming our piece. When filming and
doing voice-overs It really helped as we know we were giving our
audience true factual information to do with our topic. I felt more
confident when filming because I know the topic well.
As group we decided to a formal interview to fit our documentary, I
felt it as though it worked. Well and made the documentary look
professional and serious, because knife crime is a serious topic, we
wanted it to look serious I feel as though we were successful in
doing this. We used to camera’s in the interview one wide shoot
and one close up by using two. Cameras it made our piece look
more interesting as when it. Came to edit. I was able to change
between from the close up from the wide shoot
We found it hard to choose the right place for our interviewee to sit
in. terms of light and background, we wanted Lyn to be sitting
behind a background to represent an office, and we didn’t. want
the light to look to artificial but more natural. After trying. Different
areas we were able to find the best place for our interviewee to sit.
We also struggled mounting the cameras to. Find the right position
to capture. Our interviewee from how this was a struggle .
I feel although we are working well as. A group as we are getting
the work done each day that we need to and we are sticking to
our filming schedule, so we aren’t falling behind. Each member of
the group helps one another if another member needs. Help.
However, I. feel. Although sometime there. Can be a lack of
communication, leading to confusion.
