Understanding the Signs of Pregnancy Dangers

A pregnancy hazard is a pregnancy that has an alarm or a greater risk than

usual (for both mother and baby), the occurrence of illness or death
before or after childbirth (Tiran, 2007).

Signs of danger in pregnancy are signs that occur in a pregnant woman

which is a sign of a serious problem occurred in the mother or the fetus it
contains. These signs can occur early in pregnancy While according to
uswhaya 2009, a danger sign of pregnancy is a symptom indicating that
the mother and baby are in danger.

B. Different kinds of pregnancy alarms

a. Blood out of the birth canal

Vaginal bleeding in pregnancy is rarely normal. In the very beginning of

pregnancy, the mother may experience slight bleeding or spotting around
her first period of menstruation. This bleeding is implanted, and
ininormal bleeding occurs. At other times in pregnancy, mild hemorrhage
may be a fragile or erosive cervix. Such bleeding may be normal or may
be a sign of infection. In early pregnancy, abnormal bleeding is red,
heavy bleeding, or painful bleeding. This bleeding may mean abortion,
molar pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy. In late pregnancy, abnormal
bleeding is red, numerous, and sometimes, but not always, accompanied
by rasanyeri. Such bleeding usually means placenta previa or placental
abruption (Pusdiknakes, 2003).

b. Quit the amniotic fluid before the time

The so-called premature rupture of membranes is when it occurs before

delivery occurs due to decreased membrane strength or increased
intrauterine pressure or by both factors, as well as the presence of vaginal
and cervical infections and the assessment is determined by presence of
amniotic fluid in the vagina. Determination of amniotic fluid can be done
with litmus test (nitrazintest) red to blue (Saifuddin, 2002).
c. Seizures

In general, seizures are preceded by worsening of the condition and the

occurrence of symptoms of headache, nausea, heartburn so vomiting.
When it gets heavier, vision gets blurred, awareness decreases then
seizures. Seizures in pregnancy can be a symptom of eclampsia.

d. Fetal movement is absent or less (at least 10 times in 12 hours)

Mother began to feel the baby's movement during the 5th or 6th month.
Some mothers can feel the baby's movement earlier. If the baby sleeps his
movement will weaken. The baby should move at least 3 times in 1 hour
if the mother is lying down or resting and if the mother eats and drinks
well.

e. High fever

Mother suffering from fever with body temperature> 38ºC in pregnancy

is a problem. High fever may be a symptom of an infection in pregnancy.
Handling fever, among others by resting lie, drinking a lot and compress
to lower the temperature (Saifuddin, 2002). Fever can be caused by an
infection in pregnancy that is the entry of pathogenic microorganisms into
the body of a pregnant woman which then causes the onset of signs or
symptoms of the disease. In severe infections can occur fever and vital
organ function impairment. Infection can occur during pregnancy, labor
and the puerperium.

f. Great stomach pain

Abdominal pain unrelated to normal labor is abnormal. Abdominal pain

that may indicate a life-threatening problem is great, persistent, and not
lost after rest. This may mean appendicitis, ectopic pregnancy, abortion,
pelvic inflammatory disease, preterm delivery, gastritis, gallbladder
disease, uterine irritation, placental abruption, urinary tract infections or
other infections.

g. Great headache

Headaches can occur during pregnancy, and are often a normal

discomfort in pregnancy. Headaches that show a serious problem are
severe headaches that persist and do not disappear with rest. Sometimes
with such severe headaches, the mother may discover that her vision
becomes blurred or shaded. Severe headache in pregnancy is a symptom
of pre-eclampsia.

h. Vomiting continues and can not eat at a young pregnancy

Nausea and vomiting are the most common symptoms of first trimester
pregnancy. Nausea is common in the morning, usually 6 weeks after
HPHT and lasting for 10 weeks. This feeling of nausea is due to increased
serum levels of hormoneestrogen and HCG. Nausea and vomiting which
upset the daily activities and the general condition becomes worse, called
Hyperemesis Gravidarum.

i. Pale eyelid membrane

Anemia in pregnancy is a condition of the mother with a hemoglobin
state below 11gr% in the first and third trimesters, <10.5 gr% in the
second trimester. These values and the difference with non-pregnant
women occur hemodilution, especially in the second trimester. Anemia in
pregnancy is caused by iron deficiency and acute hemorrhage or even
both of them interact with each other (Saifuddin, 2002)

2.3. Signs of Pregnancy Hazards In Trimesters I, II and III

a. In Trimester I

Trimester I is 1 to 3 months of gestation or 0-12 weeks of gestation, one

of the care done by health professionals to screen for this risk is early
detection of complications / diseases that may occur during pregnancy
young. Dangers of Trimester Pregnancy I include:

1. Vaginal bleeding / Bleeding from the birth canal

Bleeding that occurs during pregnancy is less than 22 weeks. Vaginal

bleeding in pregnancy is quite normal. In the early days of pregnancy, the
mother will experience a slight bleeding (spotting) around the time of her
late menstruation. This bleeding is implanted and normal bleeding, small
bleeding in pregnancy is a sign of "cervical fibroids".

Such bleeding may be normal or may be a sign of infection. If there is

more (abnormal) bleeding that causes maternal pain. This bleeding may
mean abortion, molar pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy.

Various kinds of vaginal bleeding

Abortion

Expenditure of conception at gestational age is less than 20 weeks and

fetal weight is less than 500 grams. The signs are: bleeding with
abdominal pain, heartburn or pain. Sometimes with shock.
Ectopic pregnancy

Pregnancy in which implantation and growth of conception results

outside the endometrium or outside the womb. The signs are: dark brown
bleeding and generally slight, abdominal pain, uterus feels soft.
Molahydatidos (Pregnant Wine)

An abnormal pregnancy in which almost all of the chloroform villi

undergo hydrophic changes. Signs: recurrent hemorrhage, abdominal pain,
palpable fetal parts, unhealthy fetal fetus
