Marriage is not about sex its about the legality

According to the Cambridge dictionary same sex marriage is marriage

between Marriage between two people of the same sex.

The Philippines is principally a Christian country, particularly a Roman

Catholic nation. Although there is a separation of the church and the state,

the lawmakers of the Philippines consider morals derived from the Bible in

legislating laws. Homosexuality is a rising trend in the Philippines, with 1 in

16 men being gay, according to an article by Atif Munawar (2015). With

this rise in homosexuality, the question “Should same-sex marriage be

legalized?” becomes more relevant, if we consider the fact that it is against

Filipino culture, morals and tradition. Same-sex marriage should not be

legalized in the Philippines.

Marriage. We celebrate it, sometimes mourn it, and even argue vehemently

over it. Well, that is just what is happening today. No one can agree when

it comes to the rights of marriage. Same-sex couples claim it is an

unalienable right for them to marry. Opposite-sex couples get married on

Friday and divorce on Monday. So what is the big issue? The hot topic these

days seems to be the highly controversial issue of same-sex marriage.

"I do." These two simple words have the power change lives in an instant.

For most people, the phrase conjures up images of a man and a woman

being joined in marriage. But for gays and lesbians, having the chance to

legally say "I do" is a far-off dream. Prohibiting same-sex marriages is an

act of discrimination against a minority. There are many laws against

minority discrimination including equal protection amendments, the Bill of

Rights and anti-slavery laws. Denying the right to marry for a homosexual

couple is the same as denying marriage to a Hispanic couple, or even an

interracial couple. If civil unions were really the same, why don’t

heterosexual couples get them?

Marriage is legal not a moral issue (Falcis 2019) Lesbian, Gays, Bisexual,

Transgender (LGBT) community counters the argument of conservative

faith as they are pushing for legality more than morality. Its about the

legalization of conjugal property.

Under the law, in cases of death without the last will and testament, the

wife, ascendants, and descendants will receive the inheritance.

But without any marriage certificates to show, no matter how long a gay

couple has been together and no matter how much money the other person

in the relationship has poured in for the property if it is under the deceased

name, they will not get any share.

The same-sex civil union has Duterte's nod because it "fixes the different

aspects of the union of those of the same sex," said former Palace

In conclusion, same sex marriage is a right. No one is above the law
