Article No. 1 – The Evolution of Education from Education 1.0 to Education 4.0: Is it an
Evolution or a Revolution?

Points of Agreement:

1. It is an evolution because it is an innovation producing education where it is an


adaptive learning driven. The learning process will be based on real-time student
profiles.

2. It is evolution because it is built through selective individual and learning-driven


embodiments in practice by focusing on innovation. The input of learnings as a source
of technology evolution in the service of innovation production.

Points of Disagreement:

1. It is not an evolution instead it is a revolution because it leads to the type of learners


that are passive. It somehow repeat the same practices in education system in dealing
with the teaching – learning process.

2. It is not an evolution because there are technological materials and equipment being
purchased at great cost but was not really used widely.
Article No. 2 – Enhancing Curriculum in Philippine Schools in Response to Global Community
Challenges.

Points of Agreement:

1. The K to 12 is aimed at addressing the deficiency of the Philippine educational system


particularly in the basic education, the elementary and high school, in order to meet the
standards of the international education criteria and for the students to be at par with
the students in neighboring countries.

2. According to the Department of Education discussion paper (2010), the K t0 12


curriculum aims to enable every child “to achieve mastery of core competencies and
skills” and develop tracks based on the student’s interests and competencies.

Points of Disagreement:

1. The existing curriculum nowadays is described as congested. It means to say that our
learners do not get enough and appropriate time to perform tasks because the curriculum
is designed to be taught in a span of 12 years and not 10 years. The more evident result
of this is the fact that most high school students graduate without the readiness to take
upon higher education or employment. These students are not equipped with the basic
skills or competencies needed at work.

2. The K to 12 program is “flawed and problematic framework” which will worsen the
education crisis and will further subject the nation’s workers to exploitation. According
to Vencer Crisostomo, the national chairperson of Anakbayan that the additional years
in the K to 12 program will mean additional burden to parents and students who at
present are already struggling to finish the current cycle. “At present, 14 out 100 finish
the education cycle up to college. Additional years will mean additional drop-outs,” he
said. He also points out the lack of budget for education currently. “Government
spending for education, as it is, is not enough to meet the shortages at present. The
shortages will worsen and we will be faced with greater problems,” he says.
