1.1.2.2 Solving Peak Short-Circuit Current

 Partial peak short-circuit current at branch Zs
Method B k-factor will be used in calculating the peak current.

ip =1.15k 2I"k ; k=1.02+0.98e-3R/X

As mentioned in IEC60909 if all branch R/X remains smaller than 0.3 or if

all branch X/R remains higher than 3.33 then it is not necessary to use
1.15. But since, R/X branch on lump1, 2, 3 & 4 exceeded 0.3 a
multiplication factor of 1.15 will be used to account for inaccuracy caused
by network reduction.

 Partial peak short-circuit current at branch ZQ
Method B k-factor will be used in calculating the peak current.

ip =1.15k 2I"k ; k=1.02+0.98e-3R/X

As mentioned in IEC60909 if all branch R/X remains smaller than 0.3 or if

all branch X/R remains higher than 3.33 then it is not necessary to use
1.15. But since, R/X branch on ZQ exceeded 0.3 a multiplication factor of
1.15 will be used to account for inaccuracy caused by network reduction.
k=1.02+0.98e-3(371.496/943.599) =1.3208

1.1.4.3 Solving Short-Circuit Breaking current @22kV

IbM =µqI"kM for Asynchronous Machine
IbQ =I"kQ for Network
Total breaking current is the sum of partial breaking current of each
branch Ib=IbM+IbQ.
Schneider HVX24 circuit breaker with minimum opening time of 40ms
plus half cycle time relay as per IEC62271-100 will be used on 22kV.
Circuit breaker minimum opening time is 40ms+1/(2x50hz)=50ms

 Solving partial breaking current at branch ZQ

As per IEC 60909 steady state, breaking current and initial short-circuit
current far from generator are Ik=Ib=I”k.
Therefore,
IbQ=I”kQ=13.77kA
 Solving partial breaking current at Branch ZLUMP1
Using equation tmin of 0.05sec for MV CB
µ-Factor
µ=0.71+0.51e-0.3I"rM /IrM tmin =0.05sec
µ=0.71+0.51e-0.3(0.5016kA)/94.47A =0.8137
If nothing is definite known then use PrM/p=0.05 as per IEC 60909
PrM
q=0.79+0.12In tmin =0.05sec
p
q=0.79+0.12In0.05 =0.4305
Therefore,
IbM1 =µqI"kM =0.8137x0.4305x0.5016kA=0.1757kA
