SUBJUNCTIVE

Subjunctive merupakan bentuk pengandaian yang menggunakan wish, as if/as

though, would rather.

A. SUBJUNCTIVE
WISH
FUTURE
Pattern : Subject1 + Wish (that) + Object 2 + could, would,
were + V-ing E.g.
I wish you would stop saying that. (you won’t
possibly stop)

PRESENT
Pattern : Subject1 + Wish (that) + Object 2 +
Verb 2/ were E.g.
They wish that they didn’t have to go to dormitory today.
(they must go)

PAST
Pattern : Subject1 + Wished (that) + Object 2 + Had
+ Verb 3 E.g.
My mom wished that she had had more time for me last week. (she didn’t
have the time)

PRESENT
Pattern : Subject1 + Verb 1 + As if/As though + Subject 1 +
Verb2/were E.g.
The old lady dresses as if it were winter even in summer. (it’s not
winter) Anthony acts as though he had everything. (he has
nothing)
PAST
Pattern : Subject 1 + Verb 2 + As if/As though + Subject 1 + had +
Verb 3/been E.g.
Martha looked as if she had seen a ghost. (she didn’t see it)
My friend acted as though he had been an artist. (he wasn’t an
artist)

Anthony would rather that he had everything. (he has nothing)
PAST
Pattern : Subject 1 + would rather + Subject 2+ Had + Verb 3/been
+ past tense adverb of time
E.g.
Jorge would rather that Azkiya had gone to class yesterday. (she
didn’t go)
